What in your opinion would be priority one.
Hardware Gear or Well treated room + Good monitors.

option 2 without a doubt ,you need to ear the gears right
these also some very good headphone today around the 1000 euros price range that are very flat in term of frequency,no phase shift good transients and fast sound....not sure what best solution..depend the room and if u enjoy mixing on cans. |

a really fucking amazing headset.
~~~~****No reverb in there****~~~~~~
hahhahaha
but seriously, if you have the accessability to an amazingly treated room and some good monitors you must go for it.
| Yes this would be better opion. In my experience while producing with both (great head set + traeted room and monitors) I found out that most of the work I made it better on the headphones, I just turn on monitors for creating Kick and Bass and for some overall listening every 1 - 2 hrs. Also headphones bring you closer to the sound and you can pollish better.. So IMO 70% headphones , 30% monitors and room. Anyway for pro production you NEED both. Good luck!
No 1 priority is not in gear for me but increase my knowledge, skill and composition to be able to be entirely happy with my tunes
But maybe thats impossible.
If I could re-do it all over again, I would go in this order
Good pair of cans;
Good pair of monitors;
Good soundcard;
Keyboard controller;
Some acoustic treatment (monitor stands and cushions, maybe just a couple of absorbers)
then all the rest you desire (in my case, a guitar, effects, a synth, more effects, another midi controller, and back to acoustics)
But this is not paramount, there's tons of great released psy done with just a laptop and a mouse
I would go for hardware gear
Yes, i know that well treated room would be more logically correct descision, but nevertheless
Thanks for the answers guys..
I only produce trance.. digitally
so i never record with a mic
is room harmonics still a factor then.
Or do i just need some kick ass headphones for that..
Even working totally ITB, room treatment is mandatory. So that you can listen to what you're doing properly - it's a BIG part of any decent monitoring setup. |
