well first of all don't work at RGB but change the mode to CMYK. all printouts are in CMYK so these are the real colors you'll see in the printout.

another thing make sure you have it at least at 150DPI and not 72 or less. you can print 72dpi images but the quality will suck.

as for saving it to TIF, just do save as and choose the tif format. you can use a jpeg compression to the tif file..

it's best to check with the printing company you work with. .each company ususally have their own demands

I'm not on my PC with Photoshop but will have a check tonight (as I cannot rememebr from memory) - but double check with the printers as they all have slightly differnt formats that they work to - especially re: size.

They also have what called a "trim" of between 3-5mm which is basically what gets chopped off - so makes sure you leave a bit of room for that.

You can get away with 150 dpi - but most printers require 300dpi (a computer works on 72 dpi)

In the UK

www.printing.com

and

www.century-23.com

have got good websites with the basics that you'll need in terms of setting up a file for printing.

It is only a small event & you're doing less than a few thousand - it may be cheaper to do basic B&W printing on card or good quality paper. And if you're only doing a few hundered - photcopying or even just printing them off the PC will be cheapest.

In the UK to get 10 000 double sided full colour A6 flyers, you're looking at £130-£200 depending on the company

good luck

Right - just got to my PC at home...

In photoshop - click on IMAGE at top of screen (third from left) - then choose MODE from the menu and then click on CMYK and that should convert the image to the colours that will get printed.

To check the quality of the image - click on IMAGE again, then choose IMAGE SIZE. When this comes up - look at the RESOLUTION box. If you've just nicked an image off the internet - chances are it'll be at 72 dpi and probably a bit crap to print out. But if the image is quite large in actual size - you could get away with reducing its actual size and increasing the dpi (dpi stands for dots per inch - which is the info thats used in printing).

You should always ensure that the overall image is 300 dpi before you start putting text on it - so the text will be 300 dpi. And sometimes a blurry original image can look quite good - especially if you're super imposing things or merging other images with it.

Hope thats been of some use - Good luck

John
