Hi ive arranged a song and would like some
advice before i start to mix my tracks.
Most of the parts are made with vst instruments.
1.Should i export all tracks to audio before i start mixdown?

2 Should i group instruments?
Should i apply the same highpass and effects to the leads?

Further suggestions would be nice.

1. if that's part of the song, the yes. if there's some fx used that can act differently on each pass, then yes - you need to look/fix everything. plus, it also frees your cpu of the burden of processing everything in real time and gives you a clean sheet to work on getting the whole thing to sound better. so, yes.

2. yes. grouping sounds is a good idea. like Kick and Bass, drums, leads. some broad strokes EQ and bus compression can go a long way.

2.1. better handle things on their own first, then no problem setting an high pass filter to a group just to make sure there's no nasty bleeding. effects on the whole thing? can turn into a mess, can work ok if it's a very subtle thing.

hey man.
A tip. Group all your tracks from the beginning.
Make a good init project with all the stuff u gnna need during the project(or not all just some basic stuff which u gnna use anyways).
Sure u should apply highpass on all lead and all sounds(except in breaks maybe). how hard you high pass em you should vary tho.

I guess its a good idea to export all tracks before mixdowns. But im lazy on that part and mix meanwhile i produce. The 2 weeks after the tune is finished i listen to it almost everyday and correct small problems or stuff which does not sound so great.

for more interactive and smart mixing, think over the track. See it as a new phase.
You can do some cool stuff in mixing phase like before a break narrow down stereo field slowley on leads and shit and then when it blast you open em up and it feels so much more massive than before!.           .
