Sometimes I borrow my friends drum machine and just use that to put a continuous kick under the track so I don't really need to bother beat matching

Loopers can be great for making buildups and make your DJ set actually flow, as something new is being created.
Also, if you make tunes, then try rendering them in stems, and mix in your own stuff! Even if it's just leads and effects, or a perc line, it can really spice up a set
playing a live instrument is cool too (but not an effect)
