hmm... I attempted to do the same thing and got the same result as you did, however.... here's what I did to fix it... In the top section next to the transport section where it lists the bars and beats of where you are at in the arrangement, there is a button titled OVR.
Directly to the right of this, there a box that looks like 3 horizontal lines with a little arrow pointing to those 2 little lines. If it's red, click it. It will read your automation now. There's also a hotkey F10 that will do that for you as well. The button is called "back to arrangement" See if that works for you.

yeah its probably this if u were recording in arrangement view and when u tried the loop test I said and it worked than this should be solution for sure.. If that doesnt work than ur in trouble.. I was assuming ur already familiar with "back to arrangement button" but if u skipped that than u better became familiar with it cause it will light whenever u record automation or something..
