Im thinking of getting good pair of headphones which I hadnt decided yet what to go for. Maybe AKG271, or Beyer770. However I have a question, when I get them, I simply plug them into my soundcard or I need some kind of preamp or other device?

You can plug them in like any normal headphone..

I've had the beyerdynamic 770 pro for a while now..i didn't really realise how good they were until i got rid of my old soundcard (m-audio firewire audiophile) & bought a presonus firebox..

The pre-amps are so good on the firebox that i need to monitor at maybe 10% percent of their capacity..They can get loud! So i would definitely recommend the 770's..

I also checked out the AKG 271 but compared to the beyerdynamics they didn't seem to have enough bass response (for my taste)           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

I know that its possible to plug them like normal headphones, but then they will not give their full power. The volume when I plug them through the soundcard will be high enough?

Totally depends on how good the built in preamp in ur soundcard is..Like i said they didn't sound half as good on the shitty audiophile as they do on the firebox because it has a better preamp..

What soundcard do you have?           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

Have you decided on your headphones of choice or are you still open to suggestions?

May I suggest you demo the Sennheiser 650s. I use them and have never heard anything like them.
I still use monitors, but these phones are so excellent at picking out all the sounds in your mix it's like listening with a microscope (?!)

Absolutly lovely.

Disco, I plan to plug them into 1212M, dont have anything else now.

Tomos, I have not decided yet what to buy and Im really open for new suggestions. So far I hate listened to 271 only and Beyer and Sennheiser have not played sounds to my ears.
Thanks for the advice, will remember it

For now my speakers will due, they have a slot also but then I will hear the sound of the speakers and not the soundcard because it will color the sound in its way.
Been thinking about the small mixer option. Maybe its the solution...

What about those mixers, anyone knows about something small and good? (and not too expensive)
