HEllo guys!
After a few years of digital work with plugins etc, I find myself missing that hot, warm analog type sound.
I get quite good results with a plugin called VintageWarmer from PSP.. but it is not the same.
so now I decided I will invest quite a bit of money on a piece of hardware to master my tracks.
I've got a few in mind:
1x Avalon-Design VT-747SP Stereo
2x Universal Audio LA-610
1x Universal Audio 2LA2
1x Universal Audio 2-610
.. could any1 recommend one of these or something else?
my budget is 3000 USD.
thanks in advance guys!!

First of all I d like you to explain a little better what are you looking for. Cause you said you want an anolog gear to enhance mastering process and you listed devices that are mic pre amps as well...
If I understood you right you re looking for compressor, eq and limiter(maybe in the same unit)..is that it?
Btw...when you say your budget is U$3000 you mean buying it at USA and not considering any kind of taxes, right? Or do you mean brazilian local prices?

Hello man. thanks for the reply.
I am actually looking for some gear to give me this analog warmth. on the psp vintagewarmer for example I rarely use its compressor. I mainly use its exciter parameters.
Something similar to the Behringer TUBE ULTRAFEX T1954 but with more quality.
my budget is 3000 USD buying in the USA. I travel a lot so I can go there and buy it personally. forget about taxes or customs.. I can handle it =D.
Yeah.. some of the units above are Pre amps but I have seen people using them to warm up the signal quite successfully.
thanks again mate. I hope u can help.
kind regards,

ok....there are a lot of options for you....my advice is for you to take a look at this store that sell some of the best equipment available. This way you ll have a nice filter of low quality units and brands.
You can chack the products and read each specification as well go to their own website or look for reviews.
I always take a look at those products and keep dreaming...he he...you ll find brands such as ssl, rupert neve, manley,
http://www.proaudiocanada.com
I thin that unit from Avalon seems nice cause you can have diferent gears inside the same gear, at nice quality and at reasonable price considering the brand.

Cooll.. will definately check it out!
After a bit of reading on the web and some recommendantions I am leaning towards:
Empirical Labs FATSO (this one seems to be what I am looking for..)
and also the
Manley Var MU Limiter/Comp.
the manley is a little off my budget but I will see...
I found a friend whos got the Avalon 747 but he works with rock / pop music. I will visit his studio with a couple of tracks to pass through the avalon
I will let you guys know what I think about it...
if someone happens to own a manley or the FATSO let me know and maybe upload a couple of a/b comparisons.!
thanks guys!

Manley is defnitely superior to Avalon. BTW I ve seen an used manley gear selling for U$2999 at that store...The engineers at top studios have been using Prism a lot...but that s out of human race budget...
okm , its sells for more than U$5000 usually.

The only peice of gear mentioned in this thread that is suitable for mastering is the Manley VariMU.
I know its been used as mastering compressor for Saiko-Pod's album Phutures and Options, wich sounds really good but thats more the mixing though imo. |

what about the Empirical Labs FATSO ?
From what I read it seems to be a really good exciter.
I look for no miracles on a hardware. I just want THAT wow factor. u know what I mean ?
thanks agaiN!
