where are you getting your 95% figure of night producers all living in norCal also btw? that seems prettttttyyyyy much like a dramatic number just to pull out of your butt. I'd say the artists are spread all across the country pretty evenly if you want to compare by region i'd be happy to draw a chart for you or something lol.

should we make a new thread for this?

Rich's festival review thread doesn't need to be all drama'd up by us hard heads who are over opinionated about some 1' and 0's.           WARNING: The Reality Master General has determined that Mr. Vomit may significantly alter your reality. ok, i was referring to the india section where u started your own thread.
anyway, while everyone who was there is giving their opinion/review, is it just me who feels that a 'moderator' is chiming/piping/sniping in(referring your epic fail pic) when you didn't even go for the party ?

don't mean to divert attention from the topic at hand, let others who went there give their 2c or $2 but I didnt understand your 'stand'

Hahahahahahaha...
So funny reading this stuff man.

I think you are addicted to creating drama Paradigm since we all have learned to expect it from you and you never fail at bringing it. I see it as a bit of an ego stroke for yourself , you get off on the negative attention or something. Why?
I'm seriously asking...why do you do it?

It's the promoters job to know what kind of music an artist is going to bring and apparently Rich and others knew this and wanted it from people like Cinder.
If you play what you think/know everyone will love and not what you really feel in your soul , your a sellout and not an artist your more of a jukebox than a DJ. Unless you dont consider DJs to be artists...?

Festivals are not a dance a thon they are safe spaces to expand and share NEW ideas with like minded individuals.
An artist has no obligation to make you happy, shit some artists work dont even get really liked/accepted until they are dead.

I wish I could have been there this year then Cinder and them would have had 8 people on the floor love'in it LOL.

Great work on that stage peeps you really did a great job with the bits of Deco I have seen from pic and vids, I love to see quality deco in events in the states. It did not look over done and was just the right amount of pow to highlight the vibe. I have seen a lot of over done deco lately and I think it take away from the trance experience it makes for to much of a distraction for me to fall into the groove and trance out.

I only made it out to Gemini one year in 08 and had a great time dancing and just chill'in. Thanx for all you have done over the years Docta and crew you really are an inspiration!

i really don't buy this statement at all

its true. some people just don't dance. wrap your brain around that business. it doesn't mean they don't like music. or the music isn't good. it just means... they are different from you.

I remember when I didn't dance. In fact, I was against it for no particular reason aside not seeing the point of it. This was only three years ago. I certainly liked music before then, but I did not dance to it.

I changed, but I find it understandable to not dance and still enjoy music very much.

It is also reasonable to question if I am indeed dancing when I think I am dancing! I say I am, even if my way of doing it is not the most graceful way to move one's body through space on a plane. I have found dancing to be a very personal thing to do and also a very social thing to do and share. Both of these things at the same time. I think it is safer when I have company so that when I fall down I can have help if I hurt myself.

As for just listening to the music. I do this at the gatherings on occasion, but I almost always have some part of me shaking or moving to the beats that I hear.           - - -

I've enjoyed cinder's sets twice, and I very excited about worldbridge. I also fully understand that some people aren't so much into the dance aspect. That said, as a organizer, artist, or festivalgoer, I'd be very disappointed with that size of a dancefloor at that size party. That is the entirety of my two cents.

If the artist is satisfied with the results of their performance and the people respond with positivity, then i say job well done.
If u are unsatisfied, then look to see what might bring more people to connect with your style. To me thats what its about now. Obviously, styles will work better in certain area's than others the key is to KNOW UR AUDIENCE!
I learn better from failure anyways.
I feel it is my duty to reach more and more people each time i play, otherwise i feel like i'm driving a broken machine, trying to squeeze the last glory days out of her before she's officially dead. (which i have done before)
If u cant take damage to ur music ego and learn from it then ur missing the point of learning. The audience is the only reason we are even allowed to play, you better be in tune with them, otherwise pack it up and go play in ur garage with your limited fans.

This is a general statement to all artists. If u feel i wrote this specific to anyone, Guess again.

Dancing-schmancing!..
The main thing is whether people enjoy your music (or your performance on stage as the case may be). How exactly they enjoy it - isn't it up to them? How do you know that people wobbling or just quietly standing there enjoy the music any less than those stomping? I guess by that logic nobody ever enjoys a classical concert then.

Axis Mundi, your music (that I’ve heard ) is neatly filed in the folder “Psychedelic – Experimental (Dark)” (as opposed to “Psy Trance – Darkpsy”, for example). It’s the kind of music you have to listen to in a living room to appreciate – and more than once. I don’t think “sitting music” necessarily has to be of a lounge variety – nothing wrong with twisted avant-garde stuff.

Personally, I'm not totally sold on the whole "dancing" thing. Sometimes I do dance. Occasionally you'll find me stomping to glory. Often, I'm chatting or goofing off or drinking beer. Sometimes I will retire to my tent and tweak out to the sounds of psytrance rolling over the hills. This doesn't mean I'm not having fun. And sometimes I like to stand in front of big speakers and just sort of twitch and jerk around. Who are YOU to deny me my broken robot dance?

Congratulations, RichDokta. It sounds like you sent Gemini off in fine style. I really truly wish I could have been there. All the love in the world.

Thanks! I appreciate it. Really.

For my lives, I try to gear it to be more dancefloor friendly while still trying to maintain the sound that you're describing. When I wrote the album, though, I did my best to not stick too closely to the "dancefloor friendly" rule as most of the trance I listen to and enjoy, I do off of a dancefloor, and I feel it's pretty similar with most other folks.

Also, I agree 100% with the rest of what you had to say.

Unfortunately I missed Gemini this year, but it's great to see Gemini encompassing more of a variety of sounds than sticking to one lane all the way through, and it seems like it was a successful move! So props to the Gemini crew from me. RESPECT

should we make a new thread for this?

Rich's festival review thread doesn't need to be all drama'd up by us hard heads who are over opinionated about some 1' and 0's.

Not that i think this would need a new thread per say...
but i think a topographical map of who lives where, and makes what would make for interesting study.
and the 95% was a number out of my ass, but i dont think anyone can argue that the largest concentration of domestic producers, period comes out of NorCal. Therefore its pretty easy to extend that logic to it being a dominant location for a singular style.
95% is obviously on the high side.

and to Mr.Mundi, I at least give you credit for giving advance warning to promoters, so at least no one came claim you surprised them by your style.
Still and maybe this is a personal slant...

BUT, what we do is referred to as the "Trance Dance Experience" granted its a old school term, but that does that term not denote the principal activity we as trancers are focussing on?
If you are presenting music that is not meant for this application, should you then not represent yourself as a trance act, but something entirely else then?

and back to Mr.Vomit. i think our discussion has run it course. No need to fling anymore mud over the fence at each other.
Indeed whether for positive or negative reasons, your set was the talk of the event, and as the say there no such thing as bad press right?

We should let this conversation get back on track, tho some seeds for some interesting off shoot topics have certainly being started here
