I had a blast -- deco was top notch. Rich, you really raise the bar each year. Folks... don't expect quite such an eye-gasm at Sacred Seed haha.
Sound was BEEFY Friday -- Too bad the police wanted it quieter the 2nd night, but I definitely agree that them not making us turn it off is a victory.
I thought the line up this year represented the entire spectrum of psytrance -- melodic proggy stuff, poppy full on stuff, darker full on, some foresty stuff, little bit of suomi, Greek power trance, super fast glitchy stuff, "neuro" stuff, etc etc etc -- Different strokes for different folks. Little bit of sumpthin for everyone.
Sorry this is the last Gemini, but just means there'll be something new and different in the future! (and it allows me to start throwing "Leo" muahahaha)

This is a review thread and everybody is entitled to their own opinion. Everybody has their own preference of music and I don't think Paradigm was out of line by saying what he said. He seems to be the only one who didn't like the music Friday night so what's the big deal? No biggie!

Paradigm wasn't the only one who didn't like Friday night's music( & yes I do like the UNwashed Tomatoes!!!) Paradigm is the only one who has the balls to call people out on their shit. lol

I'm just curious, but were people complaining about the style of music I write and perform ? I try really hard not to get too dark or too fast with any of my material. I try to keep all the "proper" and "traditional" trance elements that you would find in full-on, just with more atmospheres and sharper leads. Deep psy-trance is my goal so if I'm off-target I'd love to know. As a producer it's really hard to tell what your material sounds like to a set of experienced and fresh ears, so the feedback is welcomed
I have to say I heard a lot of great music over the weekend that was very inspiring, which to me is a great sign of quality psytrance.
Cheers

Had fun... went and laid down when it was a bit too much, but still had fun. It's nice to see the full gambit represented, whether everyone liked it or not. There were a few times during the day I went to go lay down too... it happens.. can't dance the entire party... but for me the important thing was there was something for EVERYONE. Sometimes the status quo is just that, and people like going against the status quo, (otherwise we'd be listening to top 40 all the time)
Sad to see this is the last Gemini as I too have been going for 10 years, but such is life... if you got more mud, leave it in the yard. Don't bring inside.

Dude, your set was fucking awesome. I am one of 'those people' who is allergic to certain types of 'dark/fast/glitchy/whatever' psy but your stuff is right in the sweet spot. Really heavy and deep, excellent tempo range, trance-inducing mayhem. Pretty sure I spun a lot of fire during your set and really 'got there' - which is exactly why I go to these things.
You are doing it right, keep it up.

Thank you so much bro ~ It was a pleasure to watch your fire performances as well !! The fire adds such a primal element to the experience ... I love it ;-)

haha thanks, I was actually introduced to psytrance and spinning at the exact time, and they are intrinsically linked at this stage...my fire performances are all improv to the music, I practice to psy almost exclusively and a large portion of my poi 'breakthrough' experiences where I unlock a combination that I've been working on are a result of the poly-rhythmic nature of psy - like friendly otherworldly intelligences are transmitting relevant essential data..thanks!
Psy and object manipulation have a very symbiotic relationship for me, it is as large of a portion of my trance dance experience as 'regular' dancing. During your set, Mubali's set, and Earworm's set in particular I was able to reach that flow-state where you aren't thinking about what is going on you are just reacting to the energy that's being put out by you amazing artists.
Just can't wait for that day when I can drop accelerometers in my poi that send out MIDI data to Ableton...some amazing potential there for live performance based music/video

yeah dont really have much beef with Dragon either. You seem to walk a tight rope fine line of being able to please both sides of the fence.

"What about all the people here calling paradigm out on his shit?"
all everybody is really doing is directing their angst against the most obvious target.
Me,which i did willingly make myself.
If someone were to try and call me out on bad set, let em.
I would happily debate them as to why they thought my set sucked for whatever reasons they may have.
Whether or not they were nice or a dick about it.
but
God forebid, i call someone on what i thought was a bad performance.
There is a very large disparity in fairness on this board that is perpetuated by the lovers of the harder stuff.
Your shit doesnt stink, but everyone elses does.
You are immune to being critiqued because its art?
does anyone else notice this disparity?

i dont mean to be a dick but i think you may be involved with music for the wrong reasons, not critiquing your involvement with the scene by any means because last years Gemini was by far one the best gatherings ive ever been to (missed out this year alas) im just saying you may want to reconsider your relationship to music in general..also id recommend reading RA Wilson's 'Prometheus Rising' and then think about your whole approach to "djs" who dont play music you like..also im pretty sure ((and i may be mistaken so please dont get too offended)) i heard you play broken toy's "low down and dirty" as part of a sunday morning trancefloor at Interfuse 2008..may not have been you but someone did and they deserve to be hung for it
@brainlizard..youre phucking brilliant, most grand post to date.. |
