I agree and disagree...
Damage has a point, and respect to him for trying to create original sounds and leads. And for being a good producer too.
However, explaining (as Cosmosis did) how to create a sound breeds originality. If you explain how your leads are made people will want to expand on that and will learn from that. Otherwise psy will die...
Also please don't try to "avoid helping people on the net or giving any kind of constructive input"... it won't be thrown back in your face if you actually explain your reasons. There will (almost always) be critical people, but at least they can learn from your skill if you explain.
I know i'm not signed properly yet... but if i were to be then i would help... it's the only way that this music can evolve and new talent needs to be encouraged full on!
Peace and Respect |

eeesh. people are so touchy these days. is everybody constantly coming of drugs or something? forum.PMSratrance.com
anyway, i don`t use any formulas or special synths. i just do what i feel like doing. i try lots of new synths all the time. my favourate is still my jp 8000.
i always use lots of distortion, but controlled with a proper frequancy analyzer and EQ. sometimes i use delays on the lead and other times reverb...sometimes more distortion ...or what ever fx i can find that makes it sound better. ones again, no formula, just my ears and my imagination.
it`s impossible for me to remember how i did that lead in porno fever. did to many new leads after that one and all of them were done in a difirent way.
i really wish i could give you more info devraj, but this is how i do my trax to keep things interesting for myself too. also didn`t mean to say that you are trying to copy the damage sound. just tried to encourage you to mess around doing crazy things untill you find something that is really cool and uneque. i do it all the time.
hope this info is more affective. now can everybody just be friends again please?

heh...take it from me.....i take D's input seriously as thats the way he gives it.
I too used to try and mimic a sound.....and its all good to get you to understand the synth (like normal bands starting off do covers, same principal).
But don;t be afraid to experiment....thats how this music came about.....experimenting!
I find what the old dogs say so true nowadays......
ITS NOT WHAT U HAVE ITS HOW U USE IT!

Not wanting to create any argument or anything but this makes no sense to me...Psy will die if artists don't say how they do things?? Sorry, I don't wish to offend you, but this is a bit ridiculous...
Anyway, I agree with Damage, keep it original, keep it unique, thats what psy is about for me, its about not knowing what to expect...

@FluoSamsara
Sorry for not phrasing myself correctly there. I'm just saying that (like most creative things) the best way to learn is from studying the professionals, and then using the knowledge gained from that to create your own works.
I also completely encourage originality and creativity. The last thing I want is for all psy to sound the same |

creative input??? all i reaad was: just do it yourself!!!, which is just fine... way better than trying to emulate chemical crew's boring and over rated formula.

in case u didnt notice i liked damage a lot from the beggining, great music. but chemical crew is the most booring and ovver exposed psy substyle (comercial) . suitable for kids on bad amphetamins. sorry but thats the way i think. of course i would havee maybe made the same choice (more chicks and travel round the world) who wouldnt?? but its not music i would listen too. in fact it pisses me off so many wannabe djs playing those songs over and over.... makes me wanna change genre. |

Yes I definetelly agree with you
I believe the most important thing is to have some knowledge/experience in sound design to be able to get a clear crispy sound...after that it becomes much more easier and possible to express your ideas

i think the most importand thing i can teach anyone , is to always have total control with whatever you are doing to your leads...well anything you do actually.
for that i use the firium , which is basically an analyzer and eq together.
so you can go absolutaly mad with the distortion on your leads and if it sounds odd or it`s hurting your ears, you will be able to see on the analyzer where the problem lies, then simply correct it with the eq funktion.
if it sounds odd , it`s usually some unwanted peaks or dips in the frequancies. so after smoothing the frequancies , you`ll usually get some new harmonics, which gives the lead it`s soul.
of course it`s not always like this, so again those ears are very important and after more experience you`ll know which leads will be the winners after good processing.
i think the porno fever lead was one of those leads that didn`t sound very good when i made it at first, but after a huge amount of processing, it became a monster. you just have to get to know all your fx and have good knowleage about eq`ing.
what more can i say about this subject. alot more i guess, but i don`t want to bore people.
you can find my msn contact on this site if you want to know more.
peace out and have a great weekend ppl.
