Before giving you any suggestion, can you tell me how are you travelling to Portugal: car, plane, which airport? As you might understand, the advice may vary depending on your reply.

from the 02 – 09 August 2008

Reboot Now - a gathering to celebrate the emergence of new paradigms,
where you can become a catalyst for change by the unlearning of old patterns…

Happening for the first time on the beautiful shores of Idanha-a-Nova in Portugal, Reboot Now will celebrate ecologically-sustainable
and socially-just ways of organizing people-nature relationships.

By connecting world experts on topics such as permaculture, earth architecture, biomimicry and metaphysics, we can develop a sense of connectedness with other people and systems and will be able to reflect and take action to shape local and global communities.

Reboot Now gathering will take us into the depth of matters, by inviting you to contribute to creating preferred futures. We will be joining into one event NGOs, lecturers, thinkers, indie media, scientists and a wide variety of activists from all over the world.

A week later (11-18 August) the Boom Festival will take place at the same site for the 7th time, hosting an avantgarde programme of arts, culture, sustainability, free expression and knowledge.

yep!... i am arriving at porto airport on the 5th in the early morning...so I that let me 6 days of "discovering". I will probably not have a car...unless if appear that it's the easier option...I do not know how expensive and easy it is to travel there with public transport!...but since i will be on budget, i have to consider all options: (with a cheap ryanair rent car or else, you can save some money by staying in campings...and you also get certain freedom...
6 days isn't too long ...i don't wanna go to algarve...

If you're arriving at Porto airport I suggest you to discover Porto and the North of Portugal. No need to rent a car, as you can also easily use public transportation to move around, and save money.

Where's the links to public transports

Network of tram and metro:
http://www.metrodoporto.pt/pagegen.asp?SYS_PAGE_ID=873878
You can take the tram fom the aiport to the city.

City buses:
http://www.stcp.pt/en/home/principal.htm

Trains:
http://www.cp.pt/cp/displayPage.do?vgnextoid=87cbd5abe2a74010VgnVCM1000007b01a8c0RCRD&lang=en

In the city of Porto, be sure not to miss:
*Fundação Serralves
http://www.serralves.pt/gca/index.php?id=127
*Palácio da Bolsa
http://www.palaciodabolsa.pt/index_en.htm
*Casa da Música
http://www.casadamusica.com/default.aspx
*Ribeira and Alfandega Nova (New Customs House), by the river
*Avenida dos Aliados, Praça da Batalha in the City Center
*Parque da Cidade (city park), Avenida do Brasil and Foz do Douro, all in the sea front.
*Port Wine Cellars, on the other side of the river (V.N. Gaia)

Off course, there are many things missing. Here you can get a more extensive look at the touristic offer:
http://www.portoturismo.pt/index.php
Also, on arrival you have a tourism office in the aiport.

No to be missed outside Porto:
*Guimarães, you can get there by train
http://www.guimaraesturismo.com/home_en/
*Douro, you can go upstream either by train or by boat
http://www.douroazul.pt/douroazul.php?l=1257

Hope you can profit of these suggestions.
If you remember, send feedback.

Cheers
