Anybody can help me ? Yesterday while i was rebooting my system scan disk perfomed a check on one of my non system hard disks, found some bad clusters and removed the folder with all my work, mostly reason or rex files and edited audio files. Then it created some other files named "file001.chk file002.chk and so on.
I reckon my files are there but i do not know a way of getting them back. Actually i beleive
I am f***ed and in deep because i think there is no way of restoring these files but i hope there is a way that i am not aware of.
ANybody can help me?
my system runs win2000 and the disk in question is an 18gb ibm scsi
p.s. i know it is my fault that i did not made back up copies of my work, plz do not remind me that |

i think some partition tool may recover it (i saw a friend solving a problem like that using this kind of tool, i think its partition magic, but i´m not sure)..
i may also depends on your file system (fat/ntfs)..

partition magic is for something else..
gkalpakas there is only one way..
try renaming the .chk files into .rex or .rns or .wav or whatever
if the system recognized independently the files and did not make any combination of them when it maked the .chk files, you may get your work back.
most of the times this works.. although the recovered files may still have problems..
good luck!
in search for an answer... |

is your pc still bootable ?
...i had a similar problem with win98...(...some years ago...), but i m *not shure* if it works...
try to install a new version of w2k (...maybe with the use of partition magic but afaik it isn t necessary...) on a different partition.
--> don t format, just install a 2nd win...
from the new w2k u can search your old one ( with search *.rsn,...), save it, and format and reinstall again a proper system.
these .chk-files are something like zip-packs...
--> u can try also to search each of these packs on your w2k today...but i think it won t work...
...good luck !

try and open the files with notepad....it should give you some clue as to what the files really are.....then rename them and you should (hopefully) recover atleast a few of your files.....hope this helps and good luck (you'll need it) |
