– $50 Off upgrade from 1GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) to 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)

– HP Imprint Finish (Radiance) + Webcam + Microphone

– FREE Upgrade to LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support!!
I will purchase it for 1575.00 USD.
I want to know if anyone has had any negative experiences with HP's, even possibly this model. Also is the 5400RPM HDD going to be fast enough, or should I consider upgrading to the 7200RPM (A lot more cash). Another thing is that I unfourtunatly am going to run Vista. Granted that if I disable all uneeded stuff and optimize the shit out of it; is the 2GB of RAM going to be enough?
Thank you so much for helping me in this important descision. I looked and looked. And for the money that I am going to pay, there is NO cheaper alternative. But I am extremely open to suggestions.
Thanks and have a wonderous trance filled day!

Same here, problems that range from printers to laptops with almost everything inbetween included.
I've had experience with two hp laptops, one burned a complete horizontal line of pixels on the screen and the on the other one the hd crashed and died.
I don't trust hp, i suggest you get something else.
Cheers!

My experience working in IT has been that both Sony & HP use lots of proprietary hardware & software in general. With laptops, lots of things are proprietary, so the point may sway towards the moot side, but I would still stay away from both Sony & HP laptops.
HP is notorious for writing bad software drivers, because they frequently decide they want to do things their own way, rather than using stndards.
Having owned 2 Dell, 1 Asus, 1 Compaq (now HP), & 2 Toshiba laptops personally, I still believe that Toshiba are the best all around.
For that amount of money, I would look into Toshiba, Asus & Dell.

I own two HP laptop. One is an old Compaq/HP, and other is a dv series Centrino Duo.
The old machine never caused me much problems. I bought it from a friend, 1 year use. It crashed and died sometime after, but actually I really push the use of the laptop to limit. Too much vibration for sure... So, it´s ok.
The newer one caused me some problems using M-Audio FW 410. I could not record audio inputs, and the monitoring software crashes a lot! I get it to work only after installing a new driver from M Audio, designed for WIndows Vista OS. BUT, my laptop has Windows XP on it, so.....
My choice for tHP was about the configs. First it´s not all laptops that has FW plug. And for the money, here in Brazil, HP is maybe the best "cost-benefit" imho.

Well, here in the US, they got rewards for the customer service, I had a box the next day of Fedex waitting for a home pickup when I needed service, and delieverd to my door as well.
Anyway, I got all the original OS out, and installed Tiny XP on my HP.

Honestly the customer service here in Brazil is kind of ok. Just talking with autorized ppl from HP is good for us, brazilians... BUT, if u get a more serious problem, so u must be patience... For example: HP do not tell u how to desinstall the original OS for another one. If u want it, they tell u to contact a tech suport for this (installing new OS). The trick is just to copy the drivers before the format(but again they don't tell u where are the drivers). Bottom line: too much burocartic service!

you know what....machine to machine comparisson...they are mostly the same crap (of course macs out, alienware out also (hmmm upgradable graphics card...delicious) a few top end vaios (not all) and other random top ends (there are lots nowadays)) it all depends on your knowledge about the machine, how well you can take care of it 6 months, 1 year +, and most important....clean the fan after a few months....you will start thinking the piece of crap is getting slower cause....is a piece of crap, but in the end is just alot of dirt on the fan, really...
the assistance is indeed what differs one company form the other....but then again, if you do have the knowledge...the assistence will be the last place you`ll run for help...
i had a HP for 2 years...few months ago a ring felt on the screen and gave it a HUGE scar...with some psychodelia on it (the black spot on the screen was growing day by day....and if you touch it it would spill itself inside the screen, liquid cristal style, making some crazy looks on the screen)...
now i changed for a Acer...which is prolly the lowest you can get i guess....the machine is really good, dual core AMD, 256mb ATI graphics, 2gb ram (prolly some chinese piece of crap ram) and 15.4 wide screen, can play almost any game up to date, s.t.a.l.k.e.r and winning eleven....and i paid like $850 for it new....came with vista, and double partition...so i installed XP and got both systems on the machine...how cool is that =)
in the end is your choice...and the best deal for the performance youll get...plus the looks =p
