I´ve worked on a mix and it was almost done
until i noticed the bass covered the kick
so adjusted the bass with cutoff/resonance to fit the kick better.
The problem is that the other instrument started to sound muddy.
Now my question is what should i do i´ve made some really nice string sounds made by many wav´s and vst synth´s ?
Should i adjust one by one or could i use
some kind of filter in the mixer channel to fix this problem a highpass filter or something . |

hummm that will be totally dependable on what you´ve got, no one can give you a good answer without knowing (hearing) what you´re talking about...but in most cases all sounds should be fixed individually or as groups...
If you can post an sample maybe some ppl can help with more detailed comments, like what sounds are masking wich etc

In my opinion it is a bit wide...i would say between 400 - 700hz it depends the sound you are using...

Do you mean by bass covering kick that they overlapped (sounded at the same time)? If that's the case, you need a sidechaining compressor (or Sidekick 3 from www.twistedlemon.nl) to duck the bassline everytime the kick kicks in (pun intended). |

Maybe u have too much resonance added in the mid area of the bass?
