The other night at my good friends wedding he requested that i throw together some tracks of mine quickly and play them live.It was very late and the wedding hall people didnt like the volume of the band so they turned them off from the house system so they were just coming out of their own mixer and amps.I plugged in to their mixer and played.THe volume was low since i wasnt on the house speakers/system so i turned up my volumes and things started to distort. Was this because of my music being in the red and unmixed and unmastered or was it because i was running thru some of their guitar amps and stuff and the guy who was doing sound didnt really know what he was doing?
Eitherway ppl enjoyed it but as an artist i was kind of bugged out because they couldnt hear the nuances and the atmos so well.........           www.soundcloud.com/kabbalisticvillage

im not even sure if it was a guitar amp....im not an expert on live sound..basically there was a typical wedding band..they had their own mixer but it was going thru the house system somehow until they turned it off....maybe i was going thru some small Pa or something..i was drunk...it was my roommates wedding...eitherway i saw people dancing hard..i couldnt hear so well either..           www.soundcloud.com/kabbalisticvillage

it is the best if you are the only one who have the possibility to listen to the final version of the track...

do you know why the most effect in isratrance are front/left???

because people don't want to share their effects if they drive with the car!!!

whew you would be SURPRISED

Last time i played a trance dj set, the guy before me had it so high, the VU wasnt even MOVING

It was in a warehouse with bare steel beam ceiling and HORRIFIC acoustics, so I cant really be too apalled

what was appalling was, when i worked the levels back to sane, everyone left to the other room. So I just whooped it up MY way with Alienetic, Depravation Chambers, and a little Double Bouble

Ive spent the better part of the past 2 months working on getting everything in my live mixed properly which has the side effect of showing what I need to work on in the studio tracks, to get THEM sounding similar to the live.

But if its your buddies, and a wedding, theres less concern for people angrily shoving you off and ripping your cords out of the mixer. But Im a perfectionist and semi-afraid of 0db, so Id be afraid Of course its never a bad idea to avoid damaging gear.

(a good technique to hear what in the high end needs work is listening to it quietly, so quiet the bass isnt really there. Not pleasant really but effective, the issues tend to pop right out)          .

I too have observed performances where the VU hasn't moved. RED whenever sound was coming out... sounded awful. Rather mind bogglingly stupid           --
