Music Cd industry is dead.

And soon the movies and video games industry will both face a huge problem too.

All this illegal downloading which seems so good for most of the people out there will soon show its real face.

jajajaja video games will never be dead, new stuff is all going to enhance multiplayer online.

World of warcraft: 12.3 million subscribers. And ilegal servers are very easy to shut down .           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

Sorry Detox but you are being delusional. Nobody buys CDs but people still pay for live gigs and people still pay for digital downloads. The fact that nobody sells this kind of music is because the market is too small and let's face it, most of the music isn't that good to pay for.
You are welcome to check how much money Avatar made last year, also in Blu Ray and DVD sales and tell me that this industry is dying in some way...
I bought (digitally) the last Union Jack album and it was one of the best albums I've heard in the recent year

Since i always like to speak with FACTS and not with numbers out of my head here are some facts for you dear Login and Pavel.

CONCERNING THE VIDEO GAMES INDUSTRY.

In 2008 the total video game sales in the United States (both PC and console games) were 11.7 billion dollars for 298 million units. In the next year 2009 the total sales were 10.5 billion dollars for 273 million units and in 2010 there is an estimated 8% downfall that will be announced as soon as the Christmass Holidays will end which is the busiest time of the year for video games.

So dear Login i guess you have no clue of what you are talking about except ofcourse if you believe that WOW is the only game in the industry and that everybody is interested in playing online multiplayer games.

CONCERNING THE MOVIES INDUSTRY.

In 2009 in the United States 1.42 billion cinema tickets were sold for 10.65 billion dollars while in 2010 the estimations are (since the year is not over yet) that 1.30 billion tickets will be sold for 10.21 billion dollars.

In 2008 in the United States people spend 10 billion dollars for DVD and Blue Ray movies while in 2009 the number fell to 8.7 billion dollars with a small decline of around 4% expecting to take place in 2010.

So dear Pavel yes Avatar (and Toy Story 3....) were huge successes BUT the industry is declining and this is the important fact and not an individual film's success.

CONCERNING THE MUSIC INDUSTRY.

Digital Sales in USA for 2009 account for 27% of the total music sales with an 6% increase since 2008 BUT THE TOTAL MUSIC SALES in 2009 were down 12% in comparison to 2008 and the total industry sales from 2004 to 2009 is gone down 30% after the explosion of illegal downloads through the internet. In 5 years the one third of the market got wiped out and the numbers keep going down on a monthly basis.

Thanks for your time you can now continue talking about people who buy tickets in concerts,World Of Warcraft,Avatar and whatever else you like.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

I agree with Pavel. Also think about this.

People and especially young people (who are the ones that buy most entertainment) used to have very few choices and therefore used their money on music. Today they have many more choices but not more money. So it is natural that people will save money where they can. Sadly this is music simply because it's way easier and faster to download it for free than let's say a game or a movie.

The digital sales are still in its early stage (a newborn) and most sales are still coming from USA (according to example Beatports analysis). But sales are picking up and some labels actually make more money this way now than what they did on Cd sales (with all the costs included).

So the future is not so dark.           www.beatagency.dk

Kristian the numbers speak for themselves so its not aggreeing with someone or not,its about all three industries (music, films and video games) loosing money each year passing by. This is a fact and noone can deny it.

Why this happens and whether its good or not is something else, but the numbers are here explaining what happens.

We all know that people in our days dont have money to spend for entertainment, that computers are affordable (unlike a decade ago when a pc cost as much as a car),that fast internet is a standard (remember those 56k modem days?) and that burning a cd is just a matter of minutes (my first cd burner was bought for 700 dollars and needed 30 minutes to burn a cd.....) and these are the reasons behind the decline of sales for these industries. People wont pay for something that they can get for free,as simple as that.

Now whether this is good or not we will know in 5-10 years from now i guess. For me this situation will not end nicely.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

Actually, your numbers do not fully speak for themselves. Everything has context and perspective. 2010 was a shit year in movies compared to 2009 and 2008. If you have looked at the release calendar for 2011, you'll see that it is jam packed with great movies. I bet 2011 will show an increase in movie sales.

2010 also saw more studios trying to fleece extra money out of poor ticket buyers with shitty 3D post production up-conversions. 2010 is also a terrible year for many people who still have no jobs and are having their houses foreclosed on. If a person isn't able to secure rent, I bet they will go to less movies.

Your blanket statement of facts provide no real analysis or understanding of how those numbers can be interpreted for today's world.

That said, I do feel that the pirating of music does hurt producers and labels. But since this isn't likely to change, we need to sort out a new paradigm for the media that we like...
