Hi,
It would be nice if you guys could contribute some guide for ppl who might come to Japan. I myself might be going with friend in December. Its just a possibility because we have to save up a lot (expensive in Japan!). We also would like to attend the great psy parties if we get there. Maybe Hikari, Spliff and the locals can give us a rough guide on the major locations in Japan? Tokyo, Shibuya, etc? I think it would be great for others as well who plan to go Japan. Always been my dream to go Japan one day

Talk to Jikkenteki. He knows a lot of great places and things to do.

The thing with Japan is that if you are going over there as a tourist it will cost you a lot of money. If you know some inside things, you can travel really cheap. For example, you can get a rail pass that is good for 5 days (those are not consecutive days-you get 1 stamp for each day that you get on a train)for $110. With that, you can travel a good part of the country. We traveled from the northern part of the main island down to kyoto in 2 days on local trains. Also, there are places where you can stay for $15 a night.

Basically, you can spend as much money or almost as little as you want travelling in Japan. You just need to know what you want to do exactly. If you need to travel cheaply, stay away from major tourist areas for the most part (though the hotel for $15 that I have stayed at is in Kyoto).

Have fun but be sure to bring a lot of warm clothes as heating in Japan is not what I was used to being from the U.S.           PAR-2 Productions - PAR2, Jikkenteki, Katapult www.par-2.com

yeah december will be cold! look in searches for 'guesthouses"- they are like hostels, temporary places and can be cheap. And pm me when you are coming, I would be glad to go to parties with you friend!
also if you are only in Japan for short time it is IMO better to chill in one location, like the Tokyo region, instead of traveling on trains the whole time, which is hectic.
If you go in the winter, make sure you check out the hot springs!
And as for the big parties, you can find info on solstice23.com, as well as our very own isratrance!
You should definitely check it out, Tokyo is a crazy city!
Give me a pm and we can talk more if you want.

Thanks very much Katapult , i never knew that some places could be cheap. I have a stereotyped image in my mind that Japan is really expensive. I am definitely gona shop and party!

Spliff, hi man , thanks for the info. Yes, i think it will be for a few days only. And i definitely wana go Tokyo! and see KaWaii Chicks ^__^ too. I hope everything works out in dec. It costs around US$1100 to fly to and fro japan from here. I will pm you for sure spliff if everything works out fine!

Thanks a lot guys for your time!

Guide to japan eh... hmm... Actually if you call me or PM me before coming here, i will gladly take you around Shibuya, Harajuku(where all the young girls are at).
December, you might as well stay for the countdown as i presume, Visionquest or Solstice should be doing a big one.
Prices as Katapult has stated can be low if searched for. Guesthouses are the best place to stay.
Places to go see if its your first time here in Tokyo
Asakusa-Home of a very famous japanese temple. You can still see some of the traditional taste of japan here.
Odaiba-Probably the most futuristic city in Japan. You can go shopping here at Venus Fort, Decks and much more, its a big place but fun too check out. Just the train costs a lot to move from place to place...
Akihabara-of course one of the most famous cities in japan for its electronic stores. All the high tech japnese electronics are located here.

But my suggestion is you buy the one week rail pass which includes the pass for the express trains. Its kind of expensive but worth it since you will be paying at least 30 dollars a day travelling on local train. and if you use the express one way will be about 100 to other major cities.

Go to Osaka for good food at reasonable prices. Kyoto for the Japanese Culture. if you got money, Hokkaido for the seafood(THE BEST IN JAPAN!!!!).

PM me for more info.

My personal advice is that if you want to really experience Japan while on a trip, save up your money and spend about three weeks here. Tokyo is fun and good, but Tokyo is its own little world and the rest of Japan is very different. My advice would be to take three weeks, spend one in the Tokyo area, one in the Kansai (Kyoto, Osaka, Nara Kobe) area, then dig around a bit and find some other random, preferably semi-rural area that grabs your attention and spend one week in that location as well.

Finding lodging for 3 weeks might seem extremely expensive at first, but if you search for guest houses aimed at foreignors you can get by fairly reasonably. For example the place I always stay in Kyoto is 9800 yen (about $90) a week for a shared room or 15,000 yen (about $140) a week for a single room. It has a shared shower and kitchen so you can save money by making your own food and not eating out every day.           New Album: Jikkenteki - Flights Of Infinity
