Pitching shifting...

Hi, I was wondering if there is a software that can be used for pitch shifting a kick to tune it with a bass without shifting the length of the kick? When I use battery, or ultrabeat, it seems to alter the pitch in the kick and tunes it right, but it also alters the speed of the kick and makes it less boomy. Does anyone understand what I mean?

Hello there are many options:

- Load kick into a sampler like kontact
- Use cubase's pitch shifter
- Generate ur kick based on your key note with something like bazzism...

hope that helps...

When you say speed do you mean the length? Have you bounced it to audio to compare the lengths? If the lengths are the same then you may just be pitching it higher up, so there will be less boom. There is even the possibility that when you get it too boom you are actually tuning to your room. This can be desirable on a real kick drum for recording, but not a synthesized one.

If the lengths are different then Aciduss's recommendations are good. When you do get a nice boom with the pitch you want check it in a different room or even rooms!! That way you can get a feel for how much of the boom is your rooms modal resonances.

Yeah, I know what you mean. My rooms walls are wood, so there isn't alot of refections going on. I do need to treat my room, but I have pads underneath my speakers to tighten the bass and they help alot. I know what I'm hearing and it just sounds weird to me when I pitch-shift a kick. It just doesn't sound right. Would Antares Autotune be anygood for this?

You cannot just pitchshift a kick and expect to fit in there, you would have to know what's the current "tone" of the kick then know exactly how many semitones you'd have to shift it so it matches your key note.

You should better:

- Choose your keynote according to your kick's tone
- Or create your kick from zero and match your track's tone

hey mate,

also another great trick thanks to mr protoculture, (ive tried it and works really well), is to load your kick as audio and then pitchshift setting the max/min shift @ 3 semitones. now shortly after the initial click drop the sub energy down with an added point on the envelope within the pitchshift. btw i do this in cubase.

try it out.
