thas may seem like a stupid question, but my experiance has mainly consisted in the technical amd sound design side rather than theory so scuse ma ignorance,,, my question is..
say if my bassline is in D1 Or whatever,, and its rolling nicly and then i pitch it down using the synth.. is it acually still in d1? pitching down gives plenty of room for a subby kick or created a hole in the spectrum for other things maybe... it sounds good when i pitch the bass down from its root note,,, does it remain in d tho?
hope you understand cheers jiz

No it will change pitch so it wont be in D1. What method are you using to pitch it down?

Pitching it down one semitone on the synth is the equivalent of moving the notes one key down on the piano roll, i.e. left on your keyboard.
Hope that made it clear for you. |

I'm using a normal pitch knob, so why does it sound better pitching it down this way rather than moving them down with piano roll?
Also then how do I know what note I'm in now then,, because the kick still sounds consistant with bassline even tho it's in d.. The bass has been shifted way past it's fundimentle then hasn it. but it sounds good tho!

If it sounds good then it is good. An analyzer isn't going to tell you that!!!!
I think I know what it is though. Its probably keyboard tracking for the filter. When you go down on the keyboard the filter tracks with it. But when you go down with the pitch control the filter doesn't change. |

Using a pitch wheel sounds better probably because it will pass through non scale tones and be more fluid. A piano roll will step down through scale tones and sound 'steppy'! |

if you dont hear weather its still D or not then there is only 2 options
-either you move the pitch less then 1 semi tone or 'land' in between notes , then youre abit out of tune but it can sound cool
-either you cant hear notes change well
if its the second then its far from program issue.. lots of hearing training needed there...
p/s some synth patches arent correct if looking throu tuner.. sometime that little off balance will really give space to the mix www.sattelbattle.com

I can use an anylizer,, check the peak just zoom in..
Elad yes music therory needs practice, I've spent the last years on mixing audio rather than musical therory so much to learn so little time.. As for pitching down it reqired less eq just an urs n12 @ 350hz,4.4khz and abit @60hz no hum Rez freq.
I thought it wuz a stupid quesion hehe.
So in d1 and been pitched down.. Does it not matter about the fundimentle? I don't have a PA to truely put it to the test,, sounds good in headphones, monitors and crappy computer sub.

If you cant be bothered in downloading C-tuner to check what notes you landed on why should someone else do it? hehe
Really its that simple, just put it on either master channel or the bass channel, in the low right corner you can change mode, take the best one...
Ill give it a listen..
