Pitching Kick roll

Hey guys - I have been listening to Psytrance for about 2 years now - I fell into it by accident one night at a party a friend was having. I have just recently started making psy, I make mostly Darkpsy but a little bit of full on also.

My main question, is there anyone who can provide a tutorial on how to create pitched rolling kicks? I had watched the video here from one guy using kontakt but for whatever reason it doesnt seem to want to work for me in Cubae or FL.

I get as far adding 4 pitch bend modulators but when it comes to laying down the midi it seems to hate me.

Any tips would be appreciated.

In Cubase: duplicate many kick drums to create a kick drum roll. Bounce it to the new audio file. Right click --> Process --> Pitch Shift --> Bend it with linear curve up or down, with time preservation or without. Apply as many times as needed. Spice with bitcrash or other fx to taste.

not sure if this applies to cubase, fl, but: In ableton:

1) sample the kick, put it in live sampler in a new midi track, set it to play repeatedly, make a midi clip with a long midi note, then either do a pitch bend in the midi clip over the course of the note (keeping in mind that pitch bend range can be adjusted in the "MIDI" tab of the sampler, or

2) sample the kick, put it in live sampler in a new midi track, set it to play repeatedly, make a midi clip with a long midi note, then manually move the little "root key" button around, while simultaneously bouncing the audio to a new audio track.

With the second method you can get more than just shifting linearly in one direction, you can get all kinds of crazy movement, especially if you wire that thing to a midi knob or something.

it kinda depends on what way you like to work in, i know you can record it via sampler, or you can do it manually through midi or audio. personally i like to work in audio with the kick drums... so in ableton or cubase etc... what ever you use the same terms would apply as long as you translated them over to you DAW           http://soundcloud.com/brentmalik

I much prefer using a sampler for this. Just key in your kicks and midi, set the pitch bend amt to something like 24 or more, and automate away!

true, but I still hear people do creative things with it though, and it opens up a rather large area of possibility when applying this trick to other sounds in the mix too.

Vemberaudio Short Circuit 2 is a very nice free sampler which you could use to make those kickrolls with.

Although you need to read the manual before you will be able to import samples.
Forgot how the procedure was, but it isn't too difficult.

Use a sampler or the pitch plugins that comes with logic. I don't know if there is an option to process the audio as in cubase...           http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/dreaddean-patterns
