I wonder if anyone of you who pitch your drums to fill out "holes" in your mixes.
Im thinking about pitching the kick to make the bottom frequency range to sound fuller.
I often feel that there´s a lack of frequencys in this area. |

as far as filling holes in the mix i am not sure if this is the best way, although i guess it would probably work. Either way, pitching your drums is crucial. One should pitch any percussive sound they put in a track, not necessarily to the root note, but at least to some interesting interval.

I say do it. There have been people using sampled kicks and pitch them in the sampler and then EQ to fit the mix in question, for decades. If it sounds good, compared to a reference track that you like, then it sounds good enough.

Sometimes gaps in the spectrum can create better separation, and emphasize the sounds on either side of it. Filling the gaps should always be done by ear, not for the sake of it. |
