I gotta say first that I never encountered such unanimous agreement about a group/artist for a long time- no matter who I play Pitch Black to, they all love it. And you know I have a lot of friends who make music- and they are real critics and hard to satisfy.
Here the dub masters from Aotearoa/New Zealand are back with a remixes CD for some of the goodies from their amazing Electronomicon album released last year. The remixes are done by Pitch Black themselves and a showcase of Kiwi artists showing that a lot is going on in the farthest corner of our globe.

You can find here a lot of interpretations in different styles and rhythms, but all with that dubby feeling flowing through them. Some keep to the original feel (1, 2, 7), but in a different way. Solition (T6) shows again, just like the live version of The Gatherer in Futureproof (their first CD) that these guys have really got something going on when playing live- it all gets more massive and penetrating. Rotor gives a real experimental different feel (T5). You get jungle touches with Pylonz & Rook sequels to Electric Earth, some fast crazy twisted stuff here. You get real reggae touches with Downtown's Unadrumma (T4), and even a clubby progressive track from Cuffy & Leon D. (T8 ).

Bottom Line: Pitch Black are something else. Don't miss this and make sure to get a hold of Elctronomicon if you don't have it yet as well. And don't worry, even though this is a remixes CD, it has enough of a story of it's own and enough more diversity and interest than some albums.
Favorites: 1, 3, 4(!), 5, 6(!), 9, 10.

Like d the albums more but this CD is also worth it. Recognisable, yet with it's own story...
