Heck, its nice to be at a party, and an honor to play at a party that is packed with actual people. If we don't open up to these kids, which is what spook and michael do, then the future of psy parties will be a room filled with about 20 old schoolers.

| Change the 20 to a 50 and you have the present of psytrance lol (in the bay area anyway) |

i wasnt at the party but my 2 cents on it....
A scene can not survive, let alone grow with out the inclusion of new people.
Psy trance is somewhat unique in that it attracts not only from other parts of EDM, but other musical scenes as well.
However on the raver part of this.... we all have to start somewhere.
I (one of the more picky jaded a-holes of psytrance) was once upon a time a candy kid. People learn, people change and people need others to show them the way.
If it wasnt for Michael Liu, there would be no Paradigm, or even more dramatically a Mubali. Mr. Liu was both of our introduction to psy, and helping with events on a organizational level.
Bringing in new people and bridging the gap is needed. I understand for the older heads a room filled with prosti-tots isnt probably ideal, and in that case do your research before you go out. If its a multiple room event, or if its at a place with a early closing time... maybe its not for you. Maybe stick to loft parties and undergrounds.
And while i dont think a bunch of young-uns rolling face is a great idea...,(if only for the sake of the promoters potential problems) it comes with the territory , and honestly if your a old timer, chances are once upon a time you were the annoying kid chewing your face off, annoying someone else.
and FYI.... there are just as many 30+ year old etards that lack respect at psy only events as well. I get bumped into constantly on the floors at larger events only to be met by the vacant stare of someone too gone to realize which way is up.
Being a jack ass knows no age limit
oh and on them not getting the music, they do... psy is one of the fastest growing genres in the normal rave scene today.
All styles appeal for one reason or another, but in actuality, the most popular stuff across the country seems to be the high bpm, glitch laden stuff...Just talk to anyone whos played Minneapolis latley

Now that I think about it the only psy DJs I've seen play at a rave are sausee, michael liu and liam shy, and each of them played completely different styles.
Sausee usually plays really uplifting fullon at raves although he's a real chameleon--he always changes his style to suit the DJs that are playing before and after him and it always fits in very well.
Michael Liu plays some more dark goa-ish and techy stuff with a couple of IM tracks thrown in for the recognition factor (most people at a rave wouldn't recognize any other tracks).
Liam shy played at Oracle (which I staffed and DJ'd at), and he played some electro-y progpsy stuff that people liked very much. It was like a perfect 50/50 mix of electro and psytrance. Then I saw him again at Opulent Massive and he played a completely different set (obviously for a very different crowd, mostly electro tech house with some breaks thrown in), that I still liked quite a bit.
I've actually yet to hear any really full-power psychedelic stuff at raves... if the people going to the party are used to uplifting fullon and, say, Mubali or Penta comes on, they might not be able to handle it

Actually, I've played quite a few candy parties in my day. I used to play at the dungeon in SF, and all the Straylight gatherings since 2000 have been multi-genred. Always been that way. People don't seem to mind how you take them, because they're still relatively open to anything. It's generally only the individuals that have picked only one genre to enjoy that end up pigeon-holing themselves to a small subgenre.
Oh, and I'm actually playing a Rave in Dallas this weekend, with no intention of playing light and happy.... that's not really my thing Just remember, just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

| Cool to hear that, gives me hope
If I ever get into a financial state where I start throwing parties myself (finances are really the only thing stopping me) then you'll be high on my list of acts to book |
