@ wichdokta: u did raise a good point. yes i was also younger, yes they need to grow, i get that. the difference is i was not like this when i was younger. i had, and still have, respect for other people and a certain taste quality control.

i am not saying that the promoters do shitty parties all the time, i am only speaking of this one...

about the bridging the gap argument... well there were an overwhelming majority of kids so i don't see how u can bridge anything with so few older people around.

on the argument that they love psy... pff no they dont, they dance to it cause they are so high that they could dance to pretty much anything. they don't really buy psy, or at least not the less formulaic kind, even if they tried they could not cope with it cause its not as simple, cheezy and predictable as the music they are used to listen to.

It's sad to think you were not childish when you were one. You missed out on alot of stupid stuff. I'll never forget it. It led me here. And yes, they do buy psy. We sell it to them. They love Geomagnetic.tv. They love every mix that is givin to them. Don't put your opinions on other people. Like you said and stated, I doubt you talked to any of them, Bom

don't feel sad for me... i only said i was not disrespectful.

if u really cared about those kids u would be upset to see 14 year olds really high on E in a completely irresponsible way...

and i am gonna go one step beyond... u are biased because u are selling psytrance to those kids, so of course u can't really have an objective opinion...

Sounds like pure projection to me. Unless you have magic mind reading abilities of all these "candy ravers". If people are dancing and friendly I wouldn't complain.

Enough of the us and them already.

How was Deedrah? His 'performance' Sunday in LA had a questionably 'premixed' vibe about it. Hopefully I'm completely wrong but something didn't add up for me.

I would hope that the people here live by their mantra of universal love and acceptance.

I was a "candy raver" before I was a psytrancer. I probably would not have discovered psytrance if I had never gone to a "rave" beforehand. And now I'll take a psytrance party, almost always, over a "rave." Not to mention, as many of you may share this experience, when I began my journey into psytrance my musical perspective changed forever. And now fast forward a couple years and I'm working on production, and BRIDGING our culture out to other scenes (such as the rave and club scenes) when I DJ. You know if you go overseas, (or down south) you might find that the words "rave" and "Psytrance party" mean the same thing to these people. This is because rather than attempting to divide the ALREADY UNDERGROUND electronic music scene, they have tried to unite all branches of it to make the scene richer.

I hope that doesn't totally blow my credibility in your eyes. But then if it does, maybe I never wanted credibility in your eyes to begin with. If we're going to preach these wonderful ideas of collective consciousness, universal love, peace, and happiness; then we need to stop singling out others just because they are different than ourselves.

As JDS said, "Enough of us and them already." We are all one... one collective consciousness.

Oh, and if Deedrah played anything down here in LA like he did for you guys up in SF, then it should have been a wonderful treat indeed.

I think Wichdokta brings up the fantastic point that the "young partiers" now are the psytrancers of the future. If you choose to ridicule them and single them out from your "obviously superior" group of friends, you're just going to alienate them; and then they will COMPLETELY REJECT ALL OF YOUR IDEALS. This would be the true death of Psy/Goa culture, because the new heads would simply disregard the old ways since the old heads treated them so badly. If you treat the new trancers or POTENTIAL trancers with dignity and respect (even if they don't necessarily show it back all the time), then perhaps some of that will rub off on them. The only way they will learn is by seeing it first hand. If all you have gone to in the past are "kandy raves" then your definition of party etiquette is going to undoubtedly be severely "skewed." If all you know is beans, and somebody gives you rice; you're going to have to learn how to eat it first. But that doesn't mean these people are bad people, or flawed by any means. We were all new to the scene once, and just as Wichdokta said, we all had to learn at some point. If you prejudge these people based on their outward appearance, you're no better than the "superficial ravers" you claim to be better than. Arrogance just might be the death of this culture.

@ Lauryn; They post on a local thread. They don't know anyone outside of S.F. yet. Did anyone of us post on here when we first got into it? I didn't. I didn't post a Gemini event on here till the 9th Annual, 3 yrs. ago. I've been in the scene since 96'. As for Ben, he's jaded! There's nothing we can do about that. As he gets older, he won't go to any shows because he's afraid of the youth. Kahn said it best, Bom

As for Deedrah, he is an awesome human being and played his heart out to all who would enjoy it. Everyone dancing and smiling. The place was packed. Dancing room only. We got so crazy, the fuzz should up and had us turn down the volume. We were rocking. Bom

Based on what I heard on Sunday in L.A. I thought that his new music is very Robert Milesish dreamy, too much electro and clubby not at all psychedelic (but I guess the music at psytrance parties is not only psychedelic anymore I hear a lot of electro and techno at parties which is sad I think) .

The other part (I guess it was the dj set) much better chunky, raw stuff a lot of the older stuff which is great. But still I thought he can do WAAAY better. Truly Deedrah was one of my favorite artists back in the day. Still even today I listen every single day to DEEDRAH-RELOAD. It was great listening to him really one of the people that helped develop the scene and the music.

Personally, I'm thrilled to see these two old friends reuniting the flame on the dancefloor again and again.

That is, the psy scene and rave scene of course.

People and crews like Michael Liu (Illumination Rec), Wich + Spook (Phoenix Family + Geomagnetic.tv), Sausee (Galaxy Unknown), and DJ Dice (Straylight) have been doing it for years.

Another tip of the hat to them!

I had an awesome time playing. Thanks Michael.

The feedback from the "silly candy raver kids" is great and its nice to feel that people are loving the music and are not jaded.

Heck, its nice to be at a party, and an honor to play at a party that is packed with actual people. If we don't open up to these kids, which is what spook and michael do, then the future of psy parties will be a room filled with about 20 old schoolers.

And Deedrah was great. Sure his smooth emotional electro sound isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I find it to be very refined and extremely intelligent. But that's Dado, he's legend and I wouldnt expect anything less.

Hey, what's up!

I go to both raves and psytrance parties in SF and I have to say I am sad at how big the gap is.

Many psytrancers don't even want to try to reach out to younger people

Most ravers don't even know what a real psytrance party is, because every time they show up to one, all of the trancers leave, if they even came in the first place.

Lots of ravers I know are discovering psytrance on their own, even a couple of them are starting to DJ it without having ever gone to a single psy party. Sadly I don't think they understand what sets it apart from other dance music, because they haven't been shown yet!

If you old folks don't start teaching the younger people what a psytrance party is supposed to be, then in 5 years all we will have is raves where DJs play Xerox and Illumination, GMS and Eskimo, and they will be called psytrance parties, and that would be sad
