Ok Prodigy is not psy (at list not by my opinion) whey make crazy interesting music but not psy , plus psy music was explored way B4 them, now Pink Floyd (mods u have to get a smiley that bows down) yes they had some psy going on, Gorge Harrison even made a record of some weird electronic music back in the 70 it was one long track. the bottom line I think booth of them contributed to psytrance as we know it today and there is a bunch of artists that R inspired by the work they have done but psy is so much more           <^><^><^><^><^><^><^><^><^><^><^><^><^><^><^>

What about Jean Michelle Jarre.....he made some amazing music that was defently on the right road to becoming psy.

i think it started more from things like pink floyd..
in 2 ways..

1. the first parties in Goa were before psytrance existed... they (my dad and others) would play things like pink floyd, acid rock, and world music with a trippy edge to it, also early electronic dance music, and yes stuff like Jean Michealle Jarre...
soon the people tripping out at those parties started making more electronic based music in Europe and bringing it back to Goa and playing it... slowly the parties turned totally electronic.

2. Pink Floyd is actually one of the first groups in the world to make electronic music... basically because they had so much equipment to mess around with, they experimented once in a while...
llike Grguy said, Rumour has it that they made some tracks that were completely electronic, but never really released them... or released them unde a different name or something...

who is giving complete credit?

the question was wether the origin was CLOSER to prodigy or pink floyd...

trance actually has existed since the first form of music... which was basically a drum beat. and has progressed from there... but along the way there has been certain things that push it along its way, and groups like Pink Floyd def. helped.           www.facebook.com/DjJanux

The origin is much closer to Pink Floyd, as psytrance started out as first and foremost psychedelic music, the breakbeats and wicked drumloops started entering the psytrance scene a lot later.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

tis true, the prodigy are not psy (damn!)- but in ways; helped develop a lot of the technical wizardry which pushed the limits of sound even further. Prodigy in turn were influenced by acid raves in squats / forrests, you name it - so, a big fat lol goes out to liam & da crew!!

seriously though, not going too deep, i think if you try & chart psychedelics history it takes loads from other genres; e.g. classical music has a part in psy with compositions & layers. Tribal music, way before classical finds it way in psy.. you'll end up finding there is no definitive beginning - as there is no (forseeable) defining end...

then we should also mention PopCorns "Cap Horn" from 1971, with the most known and used melody in electronice music i guess.           Anakoluth A Pebble in Your Eardrum's Shoe since 2001!
