That´s one of the most difficult questions you can ask somebody who doesn´t know you.
You want to put colour under your skin, which is very difficult to remove again after. And there are infinite possibilities.
Friends might be able to give some ideas, by telling you what they connect to you and your charakter, but the descision is yours.
A good tattooartist will take time for you and will be able to draw something, incorporating what you like and helping you design your personal tattoo.
As I said, there are infinite possibilities.

a tatooo sould be something that is very special and meaningfull to you and something that only you have so if i would you if would draw your own 
heheh i'm not a good drawer but i like that mine are not totaly perfekt drawn..thats whats make it unikt aswell

I am glad you put some proper links up here. 
Like RavingLoon was saying, I also think that the tattoo should have a meaning to you, not just look nice.
For example, I don´t really like the motive and colour of my tat anymore, but because it had a strong meaning for me when I got it (14years ago), it´s not just a picture, it represents a part of my life and for that I still like it, although I wouldn´t get the same one again, if I´d make the choice now.

i believe you shouldnt get a tattoo done just for the sake of having a tattoo!
no one knows you better than yourself,there are many different styles in a tattoo, you should know which style and design suits you.it should come from within!
theres always time for a tattoo,remember its permanent!
whatever you do feel good about it.

yea, once you come up with an idea or concept, even if you don't have a specific image in mind, you can talk to a tattoo artist who can help you design the tattoo. Even if the custom work is expensive, it will be on your body your whole life. it is worth it to take more time and really decide what you want. here are some custom tattoo places in San Francisco or nearby:

...as for me I think it's rather stupid just to decorate yourself as an X-mas tree...your tatoo should mean smth to you...remind you smth important...I can share my experience: last season in goa there was a party in South Anjuna...and I had a magical trip that day and It seemed to me that Lord Hanuman is everywhere...later on I found out from my indian friend that the party was on the Day of Hanuman Jayanthi...I'had looked through many images of Lord Hanuman in the Net (his images vary in different parts of India from those of Cambodia, Thai and China) and found the best one to my taste...now it's on my shoulder... |

Tattoos for me are a form of art, kinda like canvas. Its a life time dedication. When I'm old Im gonna have no problem with my tattoo on my back  Maybe it will sag and look like a butterfly, WHAHAHAAAAA!!!!
