The workflow in Photoshop is very similar to work in sequencer Layers, filters, effects, EQ, etc...

I hate the layer handling in photoshop, why don't they make a regular "Mute" and "Solo" buttons for layers?           http://soundcloud.com/aedem

mixing all colors ends up in 100% white color.
mixing all frequences in audio together ends up in 100% white noise.

nature is just awesome.

I've always wanted to be able to blur, sharpen, and smudge sounds..not sure how that translates sonically though.           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

Blur/smudge = reverb/delay/distortion, sharpen = compression/EQ

Yes, but it doesn't work the same way as "Solo" and "Mute" in sequencers. For example, if I want to make a layer "Solo", I have to right-click on the "eye" and choose "show\hide" layers. This is not as comfortable as having two separate buttons, for me at least.           http://soundcloud.com/aedem

blur would translate as eq cut to spatial high frequencies, sharpen would be eq boost to high frequencies. smudge would be like moving the spatial content from one time to another so maybe stretching. SO uve been doing it all along.

Ahahaha i-ve always thinked about this ever since i began producing! Color spectrum and audio spectrum are very similar and the computer way to handle and work on it is very similar too.

I always think about glows as graphic reverbs XD

Even more similar is AfterEffects or Flash because your work on a timeline and you can automate all this paramters just like in DAW.

nice thread

tell me how can i use modify selection - Feather on my DAW then...
=O

i used to think like that also...but then when you forget the computer part and start thinking about musical technical stuff, photoshop starts looking kinda small =/

That would be like a treshold setting on a compressor / sidechainer or a crossfade automation.

Oh god... photoshop small? No way.
Even i think the comparision is a little bit unrealistic, light and sound are equally complex and computer software that handle this are, IMHO, equally great. I Love photoshop as much as cubase.

But if you really want to get amazed by complex programs for visual effects check on 3dmax, XSI, lightwave, cinema4d, VRay, Combustion then you'll probably start looking audioaplications small (even they are not )

cheers
