You could have said that you went to a festival in AFRICA, and that happened...

Teknopayaso cool sentiments indeed !!! I can beat match and I quite often beat match ambient/ downtempo psychedelic music. I personally prefer the chilled side of psychedelic for me it is real drug music !

Nothing personal Brainkiss...but I strongly disagree with you in something.
"Everybody is a natural born DJ"
No, everybody likes music...that doesn't make you or anyone else a DJ.
And trust me...I do know how to adapt my self to the circumstances.
And yes...I'm a DJ, and when my poor ears are suffering from a "natural born DJ", well...sorry but I can't enjoy that.
Everybody is able to play behind the decks???
Technically yes, but it doesn't make you good in what you're doing.
It's your fault???
No It's the promoter/organizer fault who booked you coz is waaay cheaper than book a real DJ(NOTE:I'm saying "YOU" as an example)
And I mentioned Brazil coz I was very, very surprised by the extremely low quality of the most part of the dj sets...with a few notable exceptions like Soneca for example.
Those "DJ'S" would NEVER play in a respectable party in Europe, trust me.
And they played in massive and expensive festivals...I even remember one of them getting pissed off with me coz I was getting paid and he wasn't...he was playing just for the ticket, like the 90% of the line-up.
The rest of your apretiations are not relative to this topic(Good musical taste but "no chill-out spirit whatsoever")so I can't really comment.

i personaly prefere the less technical dj that play with love than the technical cold one.

but if you can join technic with love is also great

...it's all about emotions!

Why does DJing have to come down to beatmatching? I've been playing chillout on my CDJs for about a year now and everyime I try to beatmatch it just ruins the flow. most chillout i select is structured so that its meant to be played from the very beginning and not when the beat kicks in.

For me chillout is totally about selection. reason being that there is no genre restriction. ive hooked up my ipod to the mixer and added simple mantras to a otherwise plain track. Ive ruffled through my dads CD collection, pulled out an old Tangerine Dream CD and slapped it in between some new age psy-chillout. its all about the playlist and your imagination. and i think comparing it to mixing any other kind of 4/4 music is irrelavent. playin chill is closer to a live set than a DJ one.

Exact! I'm always quite disappointed, when DJs cut the In- & Outros, which are a important part of a Ambient/Chill-Track, I think.

I agree with that too. Some of my favourite moments in chill are the intros. Who cares if you're not beat matching? It's soooooo much more than that, creating a good vibe. IMHO of course!

Yeah Justin, I guess youre right... not everyone will have the thing over the cdjs... but almost everyone likes music... I guess I didnt make myself clear....

Sergio , I totaly agree with you... What I meant by no chill out spirit whatsoever was exactly that...

What is the use of being a ´´REAL`` DJ, and what ? be a jackass bragging about how GOOD you are and how ridiculous other ´non-djs`are because they cant really mix or they´re not ´´really´´ AS GOOD AS YOU?

I mean, honestly, I heard the entire set of this one
´´GOOD DJ`` , who produces, and lives out of his music, and with all my sincerity, to me , he didnt go from one song to another very nicely done in a lot of the times he had to switch... sometimes he would even let the entire thing finish and the next song had NOTHING to do with the other one he was playing...
I do not consider myself a dj, but my set was more attentive to these ´´details``...

well ok, I will admit I have a personal thing with this guy , cause he was really unecessarily rude to me once, but I mean, he´s not better than anyone else because he has been doing this djing thing for some years...

My real problem here i think is the kind of people who thinks they better than others just because they´re in the ´´scene`` for a long time and they simply discredit and talk bad about others... that´s what I meant by no ´´ chill out spirit``

and this topic is about that too ... how do you feel when others say chill out is not as ´´hard`` as the main floor and dj´s are not well considered as the main floor djs...

I feel this ppl who think they are doing the job while others who dont have the same skills are doing nothing serious - repulsive.

Just because thousands of people are not dancing like hell in front of me doesnt mean a couple of people didnt have their mostly incredible trip over the songs I put out for them to listen...

and believe me , i sometimes rather have the most amazing trip at the chill out with the greatest atmosphere, than to be out in the dance floor with a thousand crazy ppl ...

But I love the dance floor too hehehehe...

I am just thinking about the great excellent times I had at the dancefloor at Trancendence , just last month... Yeah , I like that crazy thing too...

But I hope you get my point...
Im not trying to attack anyone or defend anyone too...
I just think ppl are too rigid with concepts sometimes...
PEACE!

...there are many ways of playng chill-out, much more than playing anything else, and that's one of the reasons why i like chillout music so much...you can play one tune untill the beginning to the very end, and than select another tune with the same atmosphere, but for that you need to have good knowledge and sensibility, it's not for everybody, and so you are giving to the crowd multiple journeys as each music is one journey, or by the other side, you can try to beatmatch as much as you can, and than you are giving a one big journey untill you are linking the music as if ti was only one loooonnng tune, and when you feel you gave a hell of a big good journey with a certain feeling, it's time to change a little bit and look for more and more beautifull sounds and melodies in the field of the chillout, wich is bigger and green than anyother else

Cheers!

Considering that main floor psy trance Djs are notoriously rubbish technically when compared to other dance Djs - I wouldnt pay too much attention to any claims of superiority...

If people enjoy what your playing - you're doing your job!
