So I ended up doing one of these as well for the BPM competition. Wish I had an extra day dedicated to mixing, as there are some things I'm hearing this morning with fresh ears that I would fix. But regardless of the mix, I think it's kind of interesting in the way it came out and pretty different from what I set out to do initially. But it is what it is. And I picked up a bunch of new (to me) techniques, so it was totally worth putting the time in.

nice one
i do think u need to repeat the straight bass part in the end after triplets part and before the outro
with a huge build up during triplets

@psyviz, thanks for listening.

@makus, when you say 'straight bass part', do you mean the downtempo kind of part (4:53) and that it should repeat after the dubby part before going into the straight triplet feel?

arrangements are tricky...           https://soundcloud.com/dead-end-dance

well okay, arrangement-wise first i would cut the part 5:24-5:53 so the driving full-power triplets start playing sooner.

second i would probably repeat the part that comes first @ 3:03 and put it around 7:25; also i would add some new sounds there from the main theme.

also i would develope the build ups more, this tracks would benefit from more dancefloor-oriented tricks

ah, gotcha. thanks for the details.

this is definitely something i struggle with, actually making dancefloor-oriented tracks. they start out that way. but then, i don't know if it's due to overlistening or what, i have this tendency to take them into some direction, where they are fun to make and maybe fun to hear at home, but definitely not something i would myself want to hear on the dancefloor. it's like i have this uncontrollable urge to mix things up somehow. maybe too much listening to Mr. Bungle and weird idm permanently warped my precious little mind.

i think i need to try to make some really loopy hard techno to keep myself from doing this. which is really what this one was suppose to be initially (well, loopy tech-trance). but because i wanted to use that idea of the melody he had in the original...well, i ended up going off because of that.           https://soundcloud.com/dead-end-dance
