missing-link - iv been Eqing bad percussion for a long time and its not worth it... if you are not after a dirty sound... if you want the percs to stand out a little more, try sending them to a group were you have a distortion plug, this will make them a little more edgy.. but dont overdo it... put a little send reverb after that and you should be good to go.. hehe
Try and mix volume first and then go for Eq.. its in this stage that you notice whats wrong... and after that you can make decision on what to do.. and remember that eqing in isolation wont do much good, like Tomos said, for the percs to get their own space you need to use volume, pan, Eq and reverb... or anyother effect for that matter.

thomas penton percussion is nice
also if you find some good 808&909 samples.
Stylus Rmx is really great and wicked..
Reason redrum refills, you can find some really nice percs here aswell...

if you want to experiment you can always try to layer different percs ontop of eachother... this can be real good. though dont waste your time in trying to force the sounds to merge... try finding brother and sister in the first place

Good luck..

i usually dont use too much regular percs.

just take a long noisy drone
open it in a wave editor
cut short samples out of it
nice fade out, tiny fade in
make 50 or so
load in sampler or load as audio
add tons of fx
eq/comp if needed

to missing-link:

im looking to get the more glitchy techy dark sounds...

i thought there might be some usefull effect chain i could adopt on certain sounds to achive this...

maybe this helps:
try camel space and/or camelphat on hihat-loops. also the chaos machine in stylus rmx can do full-on/dark kind of metallic leads. and there is glitch which is free.
