Hey. How many of you have a RAID array in your music workstation?

My harddisk went broken and I was thinking of finally building my computer from RAID 1. The basic SATA RAID that ASUS motherboards support building.

Any experiences...?

the way i look at it is more internal hard drives = more heat + more noise. i think you might be better off just being diligent about doing backups regularly. or maybe setting up an automatic job to do that for you.           https://soundcloud.com/dead-end-dance

My whole system is currently on Raid, which is silly and next time, just going to have MyDocuments of Windows on a separate hard-drive being Raid; so only important data is stored in multiple copies, whilst maintaining speed of the operating system on a single drive.           www.wizanda.com www.soundcloud.com/wizanda

Raid will only serve to make your setup even more complex and loosing a disk in a raid array is NOT fun! If it´s for the speed boost get a good quality SSD instead and keep a backup on a conventional external HD           Mastering available here:

Forget RAID 1 for a music workstation.
Go for RAID 0 if you want performance and backup you project folder occasionally on a different HD.

And if you have 2 much money to spend, 2 SSD in raid 0 for your system and 2 big HD in RAID 0 for your projects and samples :=0           http://soundcloud.com/dmtoad
