That communal feeling ... what is also known as "existential communitas" is something that we as humans can experience at any time without drugs and without music...
The circumstances we place ourselves in at parties, makes that - already present- feeling of social unity enhanced. Your experience of the existential communitas is soley shaped by your subjective experience... I mean just as we have the feeling that we are having a group experience, in reality this is formed by a network of unique subjective experiences that are functioning in relation to each other.. sorta like individual cogs within a greater piece of machinery.
If an individual has lost this sense of communitas then really the question is how has that individuals subjective experience changed to disengage themself from this group experience...
The answer lies in YOU, your beliefs, your attitudes... your sensitivity to your surroundings etc etc. If you are giving power to the people around you ( and the DJ and the music and your drugs) to shape your experience in such a way then maybe it is a chance to look at yourself and the way you function within the trance state and unlock these areas of your experience where you feel you are reliant on other people to experience a sense of communal vibe.
A really good book about this is:
The Ritual Process: Structure and Anti-Structure. By Victor Turner.

Thank for the eye opening. But I think You digged too far. I really know how to build my experience at a Party, believe me.
I am just saying that the party is not as fun anymore because 95% of the people do not interacting on the dance floor, facing the DJ, not smiling, acting like they are their own Island, and most importantly acting like the DJ is the life of the party when the life of the party (and that is why I keep coming back) is them and their energy that is exchanged between them.
Again that is how I see it. Not attacking trying to see what was the reason the party have changed and why did it become so similar to any other rave, party, club that You can experience everywhere.
Psypartys were special. |

At Zion Linguist's album launch here, there was some rushmore dancing shirtless next to him. After his set he actually took a bow. |

Now honest people You would know what I am talking about.
Why did we (me included sometimes) stopped dancing with each other at Psy parties and all started dancing with the DJ's? You all know what I mean everybody facing the DJ. Before (I mean couple of years back) and no this is not an attempt to remember the good all days people at Psy parties used to dance with each other, look in each others eyes, understand each other without speaking.
Please do not lecture me that "You need to go to the right parties" I do. But seriously I am sure You all have noticed that so why do we do that?
What is the reason?
People that do dance facing to the DJ please respond it is truly interesting why the focus has shifted from dancing with each other to dancing with the DJ

Because I love feeling the beats, enjoying just with myself, also surrounded with the people I like communicating with them on another level.Usually psy people prefer strong music introspective and not hanging out so much...specially in the middle of the party when we are all into it.
Recently I was on a party where nobody was dancing with nobody, every one was faced to the dj and a rather intimate atmosphere was felt beside that.Almost all of us knew each other(although not good) but the wonderful music was more important than chatting...
What you would like to happen at parties is usually case with the smaller bars, and a little quieter music...

@Tamara
I do not know what You are talking about I think You are a bit confused. I was not talking about chatting ot talking, or hanging out, Please don't tell it is Your conception of a Bar party. I was talking about peole not DANCING with each other.
It does also prove my point what You are saying, that people now specially the Younger generation of people prefer to isolate them selfes at a party by turning and dancing with a DJ. Hiding under the excuse of "The music is what important".
Think about it... |

I think there are many reasons for doing that. There are common reasons and there are uncommon.
It basically depends on what person you are:
New to parties - Or - Not.
True Psychedelic mind – Or – only another one that doesn’t no what vibe is.
Horny Check – Or – Not.
Teenager – Or – Not.
Adult with child mind – Or – Not.
And many many more…
A temporary 1 - 2 eyes contact with dj + thumb up is considered fine to do , But if you spend the whole party watching him non stop and not dancing then look at the above reasons then fix your self.
Its not a shame if you have this diseases, just try figure out in which category of people you are in then try get out from there.
A party for me would be non stop spiritual energy , I stand in front of the speakers (not very close but not so far) coz I need to feel the bass vibrating my skin and buddy , and I can play with waves by hand (you can catch the sound in high psychedelic level) , and maybe maybe I will say hello to the dj once if there would be an eye contact.
But most of the time my eyes sees the waves and sounds around me… that’s how trance must be.
Sometimes I can play (spiritual dance) with other people in the dance floor that are in the same frequency… we become 1 then start enjoying the psychedelic vibes...
But never waste my time watching / dancing with the dj….its totally Pathetic...
despite many djs looks for this attention - sometimes to get a feedback from the dance floor and analyze the situation/energy (then 1 eye contact + thumb up is enough) but sometimes they seek for dancing/watching people – then its ego stuff….(the common issue).
But there is only 1 exceptional thing I didn’t mention up there.
The only dancing people with dj that I think is fine is in a spiritual levels! When all the crowd are connected + to the dj at the same mind => unity.
the dj became also a part of the vibe. But that’s only in spiritual states. In this scene I saw only 2 dj/producers that managed contacting the whole crowd in spiritual levels the whole set. One of them is very old and he plays full on and the other plays unique goa trance. These days I don’t know if the old one of them is still as before… maybe today he is faking what he was really doing but its very simple to figure it out, coz if its faked then there is no telepathy between him and the crowd, its only physical moves.
Those dj were controlling the crowd very fine in spiritual levels! Everybody were dancing with them and with themselves…there was unusual energy……not normal dancing or ego stuff… they were like magicians that reads everybody’s minds and moving them to the future.
Today there is no more djs that can do this. Never see except of them.
Anyway … if you enjoy what you are doing… then keep doing it and don’t fix your self...
i said that as an advise but it doesn’t mean that’s the right thing for you (its my own opinion only).
Peace

DJ is a part of the same community so why not dancing with the DJ?

Ive been going to psyparties for a long time now... and i personally love looking at the DJ!
Watching the DJ to me is like watching the orchestra's conductor, I love watching the person up there and gather energy from that...
Call me a n00b4ever but if Eskimo could give a few lessons to some of the DJs and Artists out there who don't dance AT ALL during their set it would be a funner world haha (im def not saying we should have only Eskimos, god no)

I never understood the hype of dj as being someone special like an alien or shaman haha I think there are more shamans dancing around him in most cases.A dj is just a selector to me.Well the real orchestra conductors are the guys that being played or when they perform -the life acts. The real creator of the magic being played.Than I really look most of the time at the musicians..when they play life or at least dont fake around. But apart from this nuffin better on a good party than catching good shanti smiles and eyes contacts mental contacts feelin the vibe of one mass energy in peace. It works in all styles of music when its done amazingly.Even in hardcore killer supersonic dark haha |
