Interesting. Have heard of Ott stacking compressors/limiters for complete dynamic control and nice to see that he squashes the shit outta things, yet adds them on top of the original signal to give things smack, parallel compression I will play with in this tune we are working on for sure.

You are welcome! I strongly recommend watching whole series of the show. For me that was highly educational.
I use parallel compression and limiting on individual channels quite lot when mix rock, pop, trip hop etc kinda music. Basically L1/L2 on drums, rock vocals etc is what they do all the time. Definitely makes live drums to cut through and makes them much more constant and solid. Sure you won't go mad with that in ballad / soul types of music
With l1/l2 i won't go ober 3-4 db of gain reduction though, as it kills the sound. better to use several plugs in a row until your metering stops moving www.overdreamstudio.com

And parallel compression is such a huge thing, I use it more and more in trance too. Basically you can put it everywhere to tighten things up. With correct settings it may make any percs sample alive, make any lead solid and juicy, drums round and united. Amazing technic, thanks New York for that. And espcially my favorite is UADs precision multiband compressor in parallel mode, man, this is so good, I can't be tired of putting it into my drums group, master buss, leads etc.

i sometimes use a technic for processing kick that i learned by reading him on gearslutz,it work quiet good, i don t remember it s the true t original way of how he is doing it but how it work for me: sending the kick in 2 buss, first bus you squash the kick to get the plock, second parrallel bus you limit or compress with fast attack to not let pass transients , then you mix the buss with the dry kick.. you can expend with using other parrallel tricks on the parrallel buss , like eq, pultecs are often used for this

Pom, true, this is an amazing technic, especially for live kicks, but can be useful for electronic kicks too in some cases.
It was explained by Tony Moseratti himself (gosh, this guy is cool, just check his portfolio - Marc Anthony, James Brown, Mariah Carey, Destiny's Child, R. Kelly, Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Mya, Notorious B.I.G., Puff Daddy, Jessica Simpson, Tupac, Jason Mraz etc.) in Pensado's Place #4 (check around 10:10 min)
Why I'm saying it isnt that useful in electronic music is just because if kick lacks something and doesnt cut thru arangement it is easier, or at least possible to change the sample, while with live music that might not be acceptable and you have to find any possible solution to mix the kick perfectly. However this method can bring a very special character to the sound so still worth experimenting.

about parallel processing what i like the most is to squash something like a beat with something that produce harmonics and eq it with a big smiley curve (best is a colored hardware comp and eq ,instant otb sound ) or in plugin with a saturator in the chain to get coloration ,that will add harmonics for thickness (come from the low and low mids) and more polished sound (nice sheen in the mid highs/highs)

Apparently I have been using parallel compression without knowing that i was using parallel compression because i didn`t know what parallel compression was. Nice!
basically you use it in all compressors that offer wet and dry mixer , but it s more fun to expand it in a parallel bus and use more than just a compressor.
multiband,limiters,eq ,saturator..imagination is the limit

yep agree some of these technics are not as well suited for psytrance ,with some experimention it can lead to cool result
