i dont get it..... i work with -5 master volume and i get some peaks. so i wanted to know which channel is giving me this, and so i went channel after channel without peaking?!?! then i put back the main mix and it would periodically peak again..... not sure when but when the whole loop is on its peaking.
any reason why ?           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

Maybe several channels that sit on the same frequency?           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

1) eq ?
2) compression / limiting just before the main output ?

zooter thanks... im trying those already... seems like a logical solution but i was asking more in the sense of not even doing it in the first place.           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

One way to do it is to send the 2 channels (or more) which together cause the peaks to a group and compress it.

when you mix 5 (10 if its stereo) channels into 2 channels you`ll have to expect problems.
that`s the all thing about mixing!
try to check which channles cause peaks when combined toghether. before you compress check if the channels contains the same frequencies, in that case cut (in EQ ofcourse) in the area until you`r clear. sometimes a part contain frequencies that it dont need, try to get rid of those, apply HP filter or EQ cut until the sound changes.
good luck

b.t.w peaks are not so bad. if its small peaks 0.8 and below and if you dont hear something wrong than there is nothing wrong.
try to avoid peaks but I saw artist that work with 1.7 db on the master channel.

If you can increase the main volume you can hear where the problematic peaks accur(low, low-mid, mid etc). So then you can easily remove the region. This peaks accur due to wrong mixing between channels, prolly low range frequencies. Try to filter them internally if you use synths thant using Eq. Dunno compressor has nothing ti do with that kind of peaks.
