i have the e-mu 1212m and i;m very happy with it..
u dont need to get crazy with u'r money
buy only what u need..!!!
and 1212m will do the job  |

There are some bug reports for emu,even into this forum,check befor buying.
I have audiophile pci,and released a stunny album with it.
I am not thinking of upgrating my soundcard and if i was i would go to motu solutions
There is also a Protools version for m-audio users if u thing u r gonna use it in future. |

why?? dsp at an unbeatable price!!
and high quality dsp effects included!
m.audio for souncard:: mmmm not for me
i had an m audio audiophile firewire and it was really lame. now i use motu and echo, but if i were to buy a pci card which is budget priced and good i would defenetely go for emu!

the 'm' letter in some of the models (1212m and 1820m) stands for 'mastering grade converters' - the ad/da converters which are used in some protools rigs. s/n ratio for 1212m is about 10 dB better than the one on 0404. but is that enough to justify the almost three times greater price? dunno. you decide. unless you own some really wicked monitor system, i don't really think the price difference is justified, so go for 0404. input/output is the same - one stereo in, one stereo out. oh yeah, and 1212m has balanced outputs which are no use unless you connect it to hardware with balanced inputs.
some people said that dsp effects are not as good as they might be, but they are here to use in both cards, so you can check it out yourself.
about dsp processing - my 1212m can use dsp on 96k rates, it just happens that i can run half the effects on 96 khz than on 48 khz which is logical. dunno about 0404's dsp though.
drivers - emu's drivers still have some problems, but they are being addressed since emu is rather new on this field, and making new products all the time, so my guess they will be here for some time and keep getting better and better. i do hope they will provide driver updated more often though ....
anyway, the fact is - 0404 is basically a steal when you compare feature set and price.
