emu for lots of reasons
but it gives you more for less so its enougph to know
new one though not tested so much from the community but it carys the emu name behind it so it has to be ok
and it have dsp's to.. very good

and the price i think its the same
i would take the emu but thats your money so ask more

" it carys the emu name behind it so it has to be ok "

hmm., emu is owned by creative.,., so dont be so sure about their name

just kidding.,
i've got a 1212m myself and i'm happy with it .,
still some asio driver instabilities sosmetimes., a reboot helps., (this is when i start and quit my sequencer a lot of times, so it should not be a problem)

but remember a few things:
no dsp fx on higer sample rates (that's 96 and 192 khz so fx work only in 44.1 and 48khz)

in any case a good value for the money.,

greets.,

Whatever is better for your pocket is what fits in it best -

I agree with the rest of the gang and advice on the new EMU.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

Is there a big difference between the 1212m and the 0404?

Have they the some AD/DAs? or is it only with different IOs?

Does anybody know? I searched for them and locked at emu site but i found no information about the AD/DAs?            Signature

the M-audio audiophile 2496 has been getting lots of bad reputation lately. I wouldn't go with that card. I donno about the EMU, but I wouldn't get the Audiophile.

none of those. when i hear "emu" i suddenly get furious

go for RME. i got the hdsp 9632 and it´s in the same price range for us poor people. otherwise go for the RME multiface or pro tools or something like that

hmm.,., the hammerfall card is 2x as expensive as the emu one., but the features are very similar.,

also., i heared of some problems with RME and pc's ?., (or was it mac?)
maybe some older product of RME.,
check it out before you buy.,

check out how the drivers perform for ANY card you plan on buying., there can be nasty surprises with driver problems.,

for instance, you should not put the emu card together with a audigy card in one computer or you'll have problems.,

so., watch out a little.,

btw.,
deejayridoo ,
why dont you like emu?.,
you dont give any reasons.,

the reason i hate emu is that i lost soo much money. they propagated their samplers as being the very best and some kind of investment for the future...
i bought very expensive stuff from them (emu e6400 sampler) to slowly build up my studio. then suddenly their stuff lost enormously in value.
false promises!

considering the prices:
rme hdsp 9632 (i bought it for 350 € (ebay) (new it´s 420 €
for the emu it depends which one - the big one costs something like 500 €

but isnt that true for most hardware stuff these days ?.,

since the onset of software and plugins, hardware samplers became much less valuable in second-hand sales.,
(but they still do the same thing as years ago, so their usability didnt change!)

but this card is not a sampler., it's just an audio interface..,
.,
anyway.,
sorry you made a bad investment.,
i sure can understand the pain., i've had similar things in the past,.
now i only buy what i NEED and will need for some time., a much better system for me and my wallet.,

about the card.,
the rme hdsp 9632 is comparable to the emu 1212m featurewise.,

both cards have 2 in and 2 out + adat/spdif optical i/o + midi
both run at 24 bits/96 khz (emu goes up to 192khz, but who cares )

but the emu costs only $199,- (NEW) at the moment i think.,

so when it hurts in the wallet then i still think the emu is good value for the money.,

Hi,

I got the audiophile for 120$ on ebay. Had some problem at first because of my motherboard chipset (don't buy an audiophile if you have a via chipset, most AMD motherboards have one). Now it works well, i have a very low latency when running cubase (2ms), for a beginner like me it is a good asio card, the midi interface is working fine with no noticeable latency.

If you can find one for cheap and you computer is a Pentium you can go for it.

But yet it seems that Emu new cards actually do more for less (until you have a macintosh, emu cards can't work with mac).

Whatever the choice, please keep the vibe alive
