Hello all
I'm interested in purchasing a new PC for Audio purposes (Cubase). what should I look for?
this is what I thougt of so far:

processor:
þCore 2 Duo E6700, 1066Mhz, s775, 4MBý

Mother Board:
Intel® Desktop Board D975XBX2

Memory:
KINGSTON 1GB DDR2 800 PC2-6400 CL5 x4

Hard Drive:
Western Digital 500GB 3.5 7200Rpm 16Mb Buffer SATA II WD5000KS

off course I need also a special cooling system to minimize noise. no need for Video Card. I already have a GIna24 Soundcard which will be updated to RME HammerFall DSP/CreamWare scope
soon. no need for screen.
And also, do you think it is a good idea to move to Vista now? or can I hang with my XP for another year or two..?

Please tell me what you think of it so far, and I will be more than pleased to get any advice. (just dont try to convince me to go AMD )

cpu is fine!

motherboard i would prefer something from gigabyte or abit!

memory is fine but 2g

the hard drive is fine but for super audio performance i would go for an extra western digital raptor 74g in 10000rpm and if u want to spend some more get 2 of those an make a raid 0 strip for optimum performance!

a graphics card is essential for stability and forgetting the issue where shared graphics card take ram to work!

vista no way for now they still need about a year to mature for audio use!

thanks atropa,
I'll go check it out at a store tomorrow.
by the way, I was thinking about getting a car, but making music is so much more fun than driving.. in Israel at least...
by the way check out the Tristan CD -Chemisphere, it's a KILLER!

I wouldn't go for intel boards, the cpu looks fine, however Intel duo quad processor is what you really want. The faster, the better. Other than that look for a motherboard that has onboard stripe raiding ( raid 0) and 2 sata harddrives with 10.000 rpm or more. Load your windows and your sequencer + whatever needs to be real fast. Another method is raid 5. You need 5 sata harddrives and it is the best and safest raid method. 2 gigs of the fastest ram outh there. If you go for the 2 harddrives it is advisable to also get a Phat external harddrive, 1/2 a terra byte or more for storage. As you should export your soundfiles in 24 bit whenever you can you will need a lot of space. In my experience a computer cannot be fast enough when seriously wanting to make music, so why not get the best out there...
oh, and stick with XP Pro for now...          Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:
