i get my new computer 4 music production this week
which consists of......
asus a7a266 motherboard
amd athlon 1.4ghz/266 fsb
512mb ddr
40 gig quantum fireball @ 7200rpm
geoforce II 64mb
pioneer dvd 16x /cdrom 40x
plextor cdr
gina sound card
now with all of this i was wondering with all other producers out there what windows system are people using and which is the most stable for music.... |

so far win98SE is the most _compatible_ system
though, win2k should also be ok, depending on your sequencer.
winMe - i've heard many glitches with this one.
what's more - winXp should also run music apps well, but it's not officially supported..
i think u should try installing all of the availables, and perform benchmarking (CPU usage, Memory usage, disk read/write speeds, audio/midi latency etc.)
because the general performance is often hardware dependant.
in any case, i think that win2k is the most stable for now.

well i been using Windows ME for about 7 months now on PIII 1000Mhz system and i gotta say, its been pretty rock solid - no 'blue screen' syndrome:D (touch wood!)
but yeah, i guess try em all, see what works for u!

my friend , listen dont take any chances , you dont want to dragment all you h.drive all over agin like me and some friends had.
for music creation the best is win95 the most staible of them all but less user friendly (like you noticed), so i sujest win98.
