Sorry dude, but this is not true...

PCS are more powerfull. mac advantage is that they do have control over the the hardware macs are using, so everything is optimal tweaked, in the pc world, you have a universe of hardware to choose from, so the research and tweaking has to be done by you

It is true that there is not comparsion between branded PCS (like dell or HP) and mac just beacuse those pcs are built for home/office use. theyre not the right tool for the job u want to do, its like going off road with a F1 when you need a 4x4.

There are lot of high performance pc manufacturers, you can always check their models and take notes of the specs

One thing ive noticed is that internet really fucks ANY pc performace, in the old days i used to format my pc very often (once a month or so), now my computer has 10 months without internet and it runs smooth, no mantenance needeed at all

this is my pc:
AMD athlon xp 3ghz
MSI delta 2 Platinum mobo
OCZ Platinum Memory 3 ghz (its important that memory/cpu/mobo run at same speed to avoid bottlenecks)
1tb in hard drives

cheers!

i think its wiser to wait for quad to come out for pcs,so the dual core prices will fall down.
If thinking of upgrade now,go for a cheap mobo and not the latest cpu (money waste)
I am running p4 3ghz 768 ram (logic 5 doesnt support more),a fireface 800,audiophile 24/96 sound cards and Dynaudio bm6a pc speakers

this doesn't happen with mac pro

well i am not saying that pc is bad but i think mac pro is the right machine for music production at least for me

hthx for the replies dudes
trip on acid,i agree with you about the mac issue, but unfortunatelly they are way more expensive than a pc,thats why i wrote "pc setup"(i was thinking about spending around 450-500 euros for upgrade, while i would need at least 1500 for a new mac )

so plz lets stick to pc's

Hi, i've bought a new pc finally, couple of weeks ago...

my config is:

mb - ASUS P5B
cpu - intel core 2 duo e6300
1 gig ram
+asio soundcard

I have just written a first track on this new pc...=)
This config was enough for me to make the whole track in midi. It plays in realtime 11 tracks with vst (NI Massive *2, Albino 3, Korg Polysix, Discovery *2, Z3ta, Atmosphere, Trilogy, Battery *2, ). And every track has some processing and\or effects, Waves, URS, Voxengo, at least EQ and compressor, delays, reverbs etc..and automation of course... some tracks are routed to bus tracks...

This all eats up to 90% cpu usage (with some aplications running in background, firewall, antivirus, icq, emule...), but I'm quite happy, because I tried to use heavy plugs and presets everywhere, to test the performance, but its not always neccesary.

The price for mainboard+cpu+RAM was about 450 euros.

i was talking about the speed of in/out data that these hardware are capable of...

lets say, both my cpu and mobo have a bus of 400mhz, but my ram is @ 133mhz. so, some amount of data will have to "wait" before it gets processed (cpu to ram and backwards) making a bottleneck of information, which is not optimal for high performance machines
