Sometimes when listening to audio out of Cubase (ie, Myspace Music, Windows Media Player, Youtube etc) while Cubase is minimized, my audio will play back at half speed and with a lower pitch. The pitch shifting isn't actually very noticeable, which kind of makes this effect pretty cool seeing as I can listen to full-on at psybient tempos and there isn't any outwardly disturbing artifacts. The pitch shifting itself is actually quite good as well.
In fact, it's actually helpful at times, as I can easily hear elements in a track like basslines or a cool lead pattern and thus get a better understanding as to how they were produced.
So while this is more of an odd than troubling issue I'm just interested in any ideas as of why it might be happening.
Sample: I recorded this as it was playing off of Myspace.

maybe it has something to do with releasing asio drivers when minimized. there's an option in your preferences where you check whether to do that or not (i don't remember the exact wording....but something "release...asio... background"). try to check/uncheck that and see what happens.
that's the only thing i could think of. but i've never experienced anything like what you are describing. pretty weird.
