Hi

I just wanted to ask if you guys also taken pauzes in your music production? I didn't make something decent for 6 months, I couldn't be bothered with it. Had no inspiration. Now, when some personal things happened to me, I got the feeling back. I think i'm going to start right now

I never made a pause with music, but often it's like when I feel it's not fun with for instance psytrance than I change the genre and create something else. This recipe works for me.2 weeks without making any kind of music I could not imagine.Maybe when fallen in fresh love but 2 weeks would be for sure enough without making music.
..and when some strange things happen ,2 weeks of meditation should bring me back,no matter what it is.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

In my own experience even when I am not creatively inspired there are always more technical/engineering side things to learn...

I can see taking breaks if you have been producing music for years and years and have lots of knowledge, but I'm of the opinion that even if what you are cranking out isn't super great to your ears, that accumulated experience will translate into more musical muscle memory - which will help down the line when you want to access that musical creative flow state            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

i have found that i'll make the best tracks after multiple month long breaks. if i keep on writing tracks one after the other they tend to get shorter and less creative, while tracks after a longer break up to now have always been long ones with fresh ideas and markedly better production/cleaner sound than the last "burst" of tracks.

I take breaks all the time.

When I dont feel like making music I'll either focus on minor technical things and get them right(but not actually make anything complete), or I focus on other things like guitar or keyboard.

I often find its when I'm studying music theory that I get swamped and need time for things to sink in, so a little break from music lets me bounce back better than better.

Also when I do its usually a creative burst, which always makes up for the quiet time.           www.soundcloud.com/za-pagan

Its beer appreciation month.

I take involuntary pauses for quite a long time quite often. Anyone have a machine that can stop the time? It would be very helpful for me! =)           My journey in the quest of glory:

I'm in a pause right now due to moving and my studio is in boxes, which is driving me kinda crazy and all I do is post on here like a twat...
I don't know if its going to be better when I get back into it, but I am not in the best of moods lately and it is because I can't make any tunes.

i take breaks only when my mood isn't good, cuz if i don't feel good, i can't concentrate on the idea of the track as much as i want to and trying to work on music usually turns out making a 1-2 minute work, which i leave unfinished forever.

so when i feel under the weather, i focus on fixing my inner self first, which may vary between 1 day to 6 months

recently, i haven't taken such long breaks, thou im in a 3 week break right now, due to my chipset on my motherboard burning out -_- i feel like a caged animal without music X_x           Triplag Music

yeah i don't like breaks, because if they're too long, it takes me a little while just to get back in the groove of putting lots of time into making music, but sometimes after long breaks some great ideas can come, like your brain has been building up creative energy over the break, and then you let it all out in a track.           www.musicproductionnatural.com || www.facebook.com/djamoeba | facebook page

I have found that taking a break helps me come back fresher and with more vigour.
Sometimes I just switch genres and mess around with my flute or something and when I go to write my usual style I have new influences to use from the new things I have been doing.
