Hello people
Well I'm writing these lines after being finally able to dig the More Bass Than Space compilation (Dubmission Rec - found at AmboWorld). I'll acknowledge I knew the "Bass" CD thanks to downloading (spank me spank me ! hehe) but I've been looking for any original copy since then.. And now that I could finally get it, and listen to the "Space" Cd.. Wooow I've been smashed, yes good word "smashed" by the 10 Ton Laboratory written by Paul Frankland as Woob (here with Tim Grabham).. I mean this track is "woaow".. So yes.. I knew Woob already thanks to Flying Rhino Records, but I only tried to know more about this project after the hearing of 10 Ton.. (Funny how the "brain" can work sometimes hein ? I mean, I liked already the tracks featured on FRF releases, but it's now only I've been striked that much)..
So besides his two albums on Em:T Records as Woob ('cause there are other aliases) and numerous releases on comps.. I've found a "new" side-project called X:f System with an album titled Microvast (but the link given on the page where I read all these info is dead.)..Besides the album are suggested for free 5 tracks made under this project-name, and including remixes of tracks by FSOL, Avalo or Lamb..
It's just great stuff very ambient but so good !
Here's the page : (tracks are 128kbs files but you can get the idea of the music)

So now.. If anybody has fresh news about this guy, all I know is that he is also working for commercial soundtracks, but I would be pleased to read whatever, and especially something like "He's working on new Woob stuff" hahaha..
Yalla, thanks for reading
Have a cool day !

Oh oh oh after a few more searches I'd like to correct a big mistake I wrote in the previous post..
Sorry sorry..
This ambient project is not related to Paul Frankland and Woob but actually described as "inspired by Woob".. Sorry for the confusion..

Album from Full-Source's ambient side-project, The X:F System. Ten soundscape tracks, covering three years of experimentation from Tim Dwyer. From dark, minimal abstractation to upbeat, ambient techno and symphonic scapes, the record covers all approaches to ambient. Non-limited CD-r run.

Voilà..
But this doesn't change the original aim of the thread : infos about any eventual future release by Woob or anything related !
Btw :

| From what I've been hearing, I'm speculating that we might see new work by Paul Frankland on a future Em:t release. |

The best Woob side-project was Journeyman, with a full-length on Ninja Tune. Very close in feeling to Woob.
Woob was working on a more Latin-themed project for Ninja Tune back around 2001 . . . it was near completion, last I heard, but never released... he sent us a sweet demo for Dakini, but we never got a finished mix and he just dropped off the radar! Oh well, maybe he'll read this. |

Hello! Odd that I came across this post today while randomly searching for Paul Frankland on google and in the midst of updating my websites... Anway, I'm Tim, the guy who runs the unoffical Woob Discog that KakoOlalaJwal mentioned above. I can update you on the whole X:F System confusion and I updated the links on the discog site...
X:F System was an ambient project of mine that was very much inspired by the two Woob albums as well as a few other artists. The X:F System album, Microvast, was released as a CDR on a label (Second Thought Records) early in 2004. Later that year the label called it quits so I decided to pull it off the market and work on a new ambient album. I never liked the name X:F System so I changed the name to Off Land. Just today actually, I finally got around to putting up a website for Off Land - http://www.full-source.com/offland
You can still check out my Soundclick page which has a couple Microvast songs on it now: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=57540
As for Paul Frankland, I'm not sure what he's doing now musically. The way Em:t has been turning with their musical tastes lately, I don't really see Paul's music fitting on it. But that is just speculation since I've not heard any new music from him since 2000/2001 (all Max & Harvey stuff).
Cheers,
~Tim (Off Land) |
