some well known tricks include:
- small amount of vibrato on the oscillator waveforms > pitch modulation (use an lfo)
- small amount of detuning between two oscs (if you use two)
- small amount of filter cutoff modulation using an lfo
- some envelope modulation of filter cutoff (for the 'attack' kind of sound, for example good for basses)
- pulse width modulation if you use the pulse waveform
- envelope modulation for oscillator pitch (attack 0, and a small decay to sustain 0) this gives you also some attack in the sound
- modulate amplifier envelope with itself to get a non linear curve, if you want concave or convex rising for the attack, for example
- and a good idea is to work with clean sounds first. this gives you control of the patch you make and does not cloud one's 'vision' with tons of delay and reverb.
of course, the above works with any synth which provides the mentioned 'building blocks' |
