hey guys , wassup !

i hope every one is doing 5n ...

ok mate here i go ...

of all the time tht i have been making music ..synth patches have troubled me a lot ...

some times i can synthesize the sounds i want and some times im happy with presets ...

but , wat i want help on is tht .... wat are the criteria tht u ppl keep in mind when deciding whether to use a particular patch for a certain melody or not ...and look out 4 another one ... !

i ask this so bcoz , even though the patches sound 5n to me and go well along the tune ... so ppl after litenign to the trk say ... the music sounds 4 yrs old ... 6 yrs old .. bla bla bla and stuff ...

so i
really dont know wat to do ...

should i lissen to the latest music and then try to use similiar sounds in my trks ??

but then where is the originality ... ?

or shoudl i cintinue to make music as i do and let it improve with time ... ?

thanks 4 ur valueable time and hope u ppl will really show me direction out here !

plur 2 everey 1

Exactly.

Synthesis is something that has taken me years to become familiar with - learning how to really sculpt a sound on a synth and to get new weird noises. And I still have a *long* ways to go.

So keep doing exactly what you are doing - ESPECIALLY coming up with sounds that you like. It may be that the sounds you come up with today sound 'old' to people, that's fine, just stick with it.

So long as you like what you are doing, then you are on the right track. Take people's criticism as an incentive to keep working/tweaking.

One thing to keep in mind is that as you get better at EQing/compressing/blending your levels, those synth lines will start to 'mesh' with your song, and stick out less. I think a lot of times I listen to a track and think "oh, that synth sound is so old" but then I listen hard and realize that it's an awesome synth sound - it just is EQ'd poorly or compressed too much/little and so sticks out too much in the track. Don't forget how important skillful EQing/compressing can be in making a synth line sound new and dynamic.

So, blah blah blah, keep at it. As long as you're having fun, the rest will happen in time - the longer it takes the more individual your sound will become.

peace,

yeh., i agree.,
do what you like.,
and learn a lot.,

if you want/need to be original then you should NOT do what other people do, no matter wether it's new or old,.

but there is actually very little originality in trance imho.,

you can actually hear when there is some new cool synth on the market because it's the only time you hear 'fresh' sounds.,
and then you realize that that great artist was just using preset 112 in bank C

when it comes to synthesis i think that halucinogen has some real creativity., i still dont know how he makes half of his sounds., (but i figured out the other half!!)

and also remember that the tool/synth you use will limit the kinds of sounds you will create.,
some synths are just made for those '90s sounds ., and then it can be difficult to make it sing another tune.,

greets.,

The patches themselves can sound very modern, as long as everything else has good production. Take for example Vibe Tribe music. That's practically goa trance with modern day sound.

Hello Global Trance Network!

I think you should build your music more around ideas and structure before you choose sound...

I think you should find a palette of sounds that fit eachother... just start with a preset you like, now keep working out different sounds from that preset, either you bounch them to audio direct or just save as new presets.....now ditch the factory preset and use your own once....

in the same project open up another synth and find a sound that matches the other synth...let them complement eachother.... try the sound in different octaves and notes and see how they act together... try to get ideas on how you want your sounds to act...

if you do this with 5 synth sounds you will have something to work with....
now this is the time to be original... what can you do to these sounds that will take them to a whole new level....

wierd Efx combos, chop them up to pieces and take different effects on each part.... dont just use a preset for a melodyline, people like us will recognize it and think of it as nothing special.... make it new....
presets are there for many reasons, you should use them as ideas for new sounds...

think of your self as a bricklayer, you need the bricks but you will have to mould them to fit eachother...

time to sleep, dunno if what i wrote is of any use... or if its old stuff that im always repeating.. hehe

of course wat u worte makes a lotta sense triptocoma .. as i always try to make my synths gel together with each other ...

but i myself am noticing as mike and fuzzi said ... tht everything sounds good if the production is good !

so i think im must stop worrying or thinking too much and make music

plur ..... boom!

Everything does not sound good if the production is good... thats a foolish statement

everything sounds good if it sounds good... production is only a part of the whole cake and what you should concentrate on is the music!

if just for a moment, try to shut your self out from the world around you, dont compare your self to anyone!

dont spend 3 hours on the baseline and kick... just keep them low and flow...

i will give you another idea...

choose 3 synths, choose different waveforms on each synth.... saw, sine, square

now play around and see which wave(sound) takes most of the sound picture, how do they complement eachother acording to the frequency spectrum! and so on... experiment a little...

try to layer different waveforms and see what you can come up with...
i got to go back to work now.. laters

have in mind that all superartists like infected mushroom and akazi trade banks for their remixes. If anyone wants cool patches for access virus we could trade ;-)
