Trance party organizers, i have a question/comment to make. I Know you guys work hard doing what you do trying to build up the scene in america. and let me also add that i applaud your effort and work.
However, i was wondering what it would take to get a crazy party set up in nyc. Im talkin bout more events with goa artists like infected mushrooms, skazi, yahel, astral, etc. Its so frustrating having parties like this once in a bluemoon.
I live in NYC and im SICK and FRUSTRATED with the whole club scene. Its all cheesed out vocals and house music.
And let me also add, i would have no problem spending the extra $ to see a performance with a good line up. And i know a ton of other people that wouldnt mind spending the extra cash. So please, maybe we can all wrok together or soemthing and get crazy parties happenign more often. Maybe that will build up the scene. |

Well.... Im not involved with organizing or anything, Im just a regular party attendee, but heres my 2 cents:
I like the scene just the way it is in terms of size. I love seeing the same faces at every party, feeling like we have an actual community here. Of course I see how it would be nice to have massive gatherings like they have in the rest of the world, but then I think of attending a trance party with 10,000 of my fellow Americans and I dont really like that idea. I for one and a bit of a misfit in mainstream American society so if trance got all mainstream here, I might find myself squeezed out. As to what acts to bring, Its not IM, Skazi, yahel, AP and the other mainstream acts that I feel like we New Yorkers are missing out on.
If I could have everything I wanted, I would want to see more of the less known acts coming here (Cosmo Chaos, Rinkadink, Shift, Blowfish, Spies, Kiwa, Lemurians, Frequency Deluxe, Mukunga Umbura, Oszilla, Quantum/DJ Gidi).
Still, I think that in terms of amount and size of parties we are doing just fine in NY. Theres a party almost every weekend, two weekly's, multiple party organizations, the deco is always amazing. Even the fact that the same people have come to NY twice in the past year is a plus in my mind. The people that keep coming are good acts (Wizzy Noise, Neuromotor, Deviant Species) and by repeatedly blessing us with their presence they are helping us build a connection with the rest of the world's party scene.
So smoothisraeli, I second your props to the organizers for their hard work, but I disagree with your vision about the direction our scene should take. If we do what you say I fear we will become like that club scene you are sick and frustrated with.
The main thing we should work on, in my view, is making our little NYC trance family a more functional family. I have seen some really nasty stuff posted here lately, and that makes me sad because infighting is disrespectful to this beautiful thing we have going here. We need to get back in touch with where we come from and what we value, and I hope that is something deeper than big crowds, big names, and $$$.
Its the love that counts, everything else is window dressing.
PLUR,

Infected Mushroom, Skazi, Yahel all have something in common. Yes, they're commercial. Whats that? Oh, that's right, they're also incredibly lame, and I couldn't possibly think of something more lame then to meatpack with 10000 other people into one big arena just to see them live, and see israeli's showing their israeli pride(in NYC nonetheless). a killer psy-trance party isin't something you can buy in the supermarket. It's not something to be sold by someone asking you "How are you" and telling you to "have a good day". Fuck IM, fuck skazi, and fuck yahel. Whats the matter ? The live acts that have came here in november aren't good enough for you? Deviant Species, Penta, Son Kite, Void(dj-set, better than their live anyway), wizzy noise?Compared to that, what your listening to is cheesed out house music and vocals(especially IM's last album). But I mean, thats just my two cents, good luck in trying to commercialize psy-trance(and yes I know a lot of it has already been commercialized).
We are all visitors to this time, this place. We are just passing through. Our purpose here is to observe, to learn, to grow, to love... and then we return home. |
