Big up the oztrance massive! Sorry.
So anyways, I'm about to buy a firewire HDD to use with my laptop, cause the internal is chocked full of trancy goodness, and I've never actually gone to the trouble of ever doing anything other than making one (primary) partion on a HDD and want to know what the dealio is.

Basically I'll be using the internal drive now for running the OS and music software and the using the external to stream all the audio files and sampler sounds. I was wanting to know is there any particular kind of partioning setup you would recommend for either of these drives to optimise their performance?

I was reading this morning that due to the property of linear velocity the data stored in the larger, outer tracks of a HDD can be read faster than those on the inside. Is there anyway to specify what part of the drive a partition takes? I know you can specify the size...

Anywho, I'm trying to get a Western Digital SE 7200rpm EIDE HDD with 8MB cache put into an external firewire case if anyones interested cause I heard the WD drives rock.

So, please tell me your partioning recommendations and other such useful tidbits and I'll be eternally grateful.

Excuse me, I gotta go eat some gim-chi.

..for w2k and xp it s the best to have only 1 partition.

bOm           experiment !
make it your motto day and night.
experiment,
and it will lead you to the light.
the apple on the top of the tree
is never too high to achieve,
so take an example from eve...
