I honestly don't think talking about how 400-500 cds printed on an indie label should be a big environmental concern when the majors print out millions of copies and don't give a shit about it

so sick of this "save the planet" agenda always starting out with those who do the least amount of damage but are conversely asked to spend the most time and money on the issue while the big boys go on not giving a shit

"you have to start somewhere"

yeah...how about we start on the top

Dear Dovla.

I believe we are just going back and forward regarding the reality that CD's are not the future. Sad? Maybe To me I also really do not care if 500-1000 CD's are printed or not.
I am much more interested in reliable solutions for the future ensuring artists get some sort of payment.           www.beatagency.dk

Right, let's just put the environmental impact on the side for a moment and talk about more substantial reasons why CDs are on their way out.

1) Most people get booked to play live sets in a party (wrong if you ask me, we need more DJs with 3+ hour sets to get a proper flow in a party).

2) More and more "pro" DJs see the advantages of DJing software/Ableton and the extra options they provide to a more creative set, in key mixing...etc.

3) n00b DJs find it a lot easier to have Traktor sync their audio files/mp3s, using their computer.

4) Most n00b DJs don't have CDJs

5) You don't have to carry CD cases around (I remember having to carry two record bags around when I was DJing breakbeats. Them record bag belts would stop my blood from flowing across my shoulders after 15 minutes!...did look cool carrying camo Technics bags tho)

6) An awful lot of people that buy music nowdays are DJs/want to be DJs. Once again an awful lot of them do not care about artwork and jewel cases, they just take the CD sleeve and slip it into the case, tracklist side facing out.

7) And most important reason. More and more labels HAVE to keep the music digital format only to save costs. Its either that, or closing the label down.

Feel free to add more reasons.

Peace out.

of course, I feel the same, just don't think the environmental aspect should be a factor for indie labels           DJ Dovla | Interchill Records, Flow Records

I feel maybe something on the lines of a usb with audio in 24bit and some video might be the future.

Yes, the best argument against going about things with some respect for the environment is that other people trash the environment much more, so why shouldn't we? Sounds like a great idea.....????? lol anyways...

The reason indie labels should never press CDs is because most of the time you lose more money pressing the CDs than you will ever make selling them. It's very, very simple. Seems that lots of people are still chasing the coolness factor of pressing a CD though it seems. Unfortunate.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

when i really love some music,it belongs to my life like a soundtrack to my personal life.Like the doors or pink floyd or jimi hendrix or led zeppelin,or celtic cross,or fsol isdn )or sargent pepper from beatles and many more for me ,I love it for decades and still I love it - maybe not each day,but again and again the moments will arive and come back where the soundtrack is like a wave of past for me.That can see pictures and scenes and know all is good.Such cds I need to have original.
It would be a shame to have it stolen from the net.          https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

Not in my store. Here labels get the largest share of the revenue!

- Compared to beatport albums, it's still cheaper per track when you buy CDs and rip the wavs.

- Artwork is physical

- You can sell them on discogs if it's not of collectible quality.

- Constantly using the CD player in the car so it's convenient

- Sorting the collection is a Zen like exercise

Bandcamp and Addictech are doing good to bring about a change (esp when looking for fresh DJ material) but still end up buying physicals of the stuff I enjoy... it'll be non existent in the near future so might as well invest in something that's part of your generation.

Yeap! 100% bought cds! support the artist and labels!
Cheatport sales are nothing. Digital sales in general are nothing.
