The track is very high in the mid!
have you been boosting alot in the mid frequencies?

you talk about stereo widness, but there is also a widness in the frequency spectrum...
up and down like, a bass lives in the low freqs and the hihats in the high freqs and the snare in the lowmid to himid freqs, and so on...

try to not force a sound to a frequency it dosent really belong to.

this track sound very concentrated in the middle... you should try to spread it out frequency wise!

if you made alot of Eq try to bypass them all or reset them and begin to mix volume and use Eq to make every sound live in their natural space, if a conga peaks at 700-800 for example then you could cut some low frequencies and make a wide 2-3dB boost in that region they live in...

this is just an example, you have to listen your self and only make small adjustments, cause if you overdo it something else will suffer...

try the EQ Firium(elemental audio), this will let you see the peaks so you can understand more where to cut or boost, but after working awhile you start to recognize the sounds and where they live and peak...

anyway try to
backdown on the mids in this track, let the bass be in the depth and not too strong in the middle freqs, cause it will cause distortion sometimes if you boost the bass in the mid freqs...

this could be a speaker issue, maybe your speakers are very low in the midfreqs so you boost them to get a more even sound...

good luck

thanks New Era Scientist for the in-depth analysis! my prob is i've been mixing my tracks on hi-fi speakers which maybe led to me boosting the mid too much..
another prob i've realised i have is not cutting off frequencies i don't need..i'll try using the EQ u mention..
should i b cutting some mid frequencies (500hz)from the bass as well?
b.t.w which tracks did u listen to?           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic
