ok pretty much im trying to side-chain my kickdrum and bassline using waves C1-sc. now ive worked out that i need to route my bassline via a group channel and the same with the kickdrum via the send aux one panned left and one right, in this case my kickdrum is panned left. Now left is triggering right in a side-chain, i do my normal compression etc. but the problem is i cant bring the kickdrum and bassline back into the centre of my stereo space (no pan), where they are both playing on equal sides of my speakers. I understand i'll need to somehow centre my group channel, i just cant work out how? by the way im working in cubase.

thanks again for the help guys.           .:TO INFINITY AND BEYOND:.

i'm also thinking too, would i have to somehow pan the kickdrum going through the send in the group channel somehow, i believe in logic this is done by clicking the 'Send display modes'.

You don't actually need to pan the kickdrum track left, you just have to enable send routing, which is the little button just above the sends in SX. then you pan the kick send to the left. the bass, however, does need to be officially "routed" to the group channel (not using the sends.)

Yip, pan the kickdrum SEND to the left using a pre-fader send: the kick signal itself stays panned in the centre. I always route the group channel containing the C1-sc to a new group, which i use to pan the Bass to the centre again. There probably is a much smarter way of doing it, but this one works for me

yep, that's the trick - create a mono group and send your entire group channel with the side-chain to that mono group.

only way I found to fix the problem that I found, and it works like a charm.

Are you using SX? When you add a group channel it should prompt you for "stereo" or "mono" before adding it.

Though I *think* there might be a "do not ask me this again" option on that window, so if you clicked that then your group channels always default to whatever you selected that time.

I have posted an example of side-chaining here http://filebox.vt.edu/users/amarano/Side%20Chaning.cpr

I'm pretty sure it has the side-chained channel routed to a mono channel. (don't have SX on this computer so I can't verify, I posted the file a while ago).

Hope that helps!

hum interesting .. but .. if u put a group in mono .. u loss a bit ... its my opinion .. i see many persons using drum kits on mono audio instruments ... but , for ex .. somethimes i get .. this problems when im using stereo tracks ... they have a bit diference ,,but somethimes its because of the wave sample .. that have this defenitions .. so i edit them on wavelab .. and i fixed them how i liked them .,,,, but now .. if u are saying , that for ex ... VB1 bassline in cubase ... is not in stereo perfect mode .... its really strange ... might be a bug on your version ?? because actually i dont work on cubase ... but i allready worked .. and i never saw this problem

by the way since im on logic .. i never get problem in nothing eheh

so chek this out well .. because its really strange

I dunno... i just right-click in on the tracklist in the project window and choose 'add group track'. Like Fuzzikitten said it should promt you and ask if you want it to be a mono or a stereo group track. Then route your other group track to this track by going to the top of the group-channel in the mixer window and selecting the newly created group track as the destination of this channel by clicking in the small strip that says: BUS (or something like that). It's explained pretty clear in the manual actually.

By the way, are you using SX 2 ?
