Hi Guys,

The -3db pan law, in stereo is ok, goes to 0 db, but in mono it gains + 3db so what would be a solution for this problem? Because when you pan elements on the mix and the results will be diferent in stereo and mono.
In mono the elements panned will sound louder than in the stereo mix and as you know most sound system plays back in mono.
So which pan law do you use and why?
Thanks.

upavas imo we need proper stereo sound system before even thiniking to 5.1
ecsmix it s the 0 db pan law that gain around 3 db in the center, - 3db pan law is there to correct that and have equal power ( or close) if i m right .

Pom, 5.1 is available NOW, so imho stereo is really out.
The fact that there are clubs that have less than good stereo systems is a sad truth, so why not upgrade to 5.1 right away instead of another stereo system?
The masses have not yet caught on to it, in time they will...

We have no standardization in the music world. The film industry do. But we can't even cope with consistency with just stereo.
Lets learn to walk before we run.

i prefer -3db setup. watch cubase tutorials and theyll tell you what this stands for.

ps. youtube, shopping malls, big clubs, big venues plays always in mono. so, in my opinion music which doesn't sound good also in mono is shit =)

5.1 is not coming for a long time. in 80% of cases music sounds shit from these magnificent system. d/a corverted and automated dsp crossover controls sucks badly in cheap systems. at home you won't get a decent 5.1 system for music without 10 000e.

and in clubs this (5.1 bullshit) is out of question cos when you are standing next to left/rear speaker you can lost the whole nature of song.

at the moment 5.1 is a movie format and never will be a music format besides some artists have tried it.

Big clubs and big venues aren't always in mono.

We are now in an age, thanks to the iPod, where a lot more music is being listened to in stereo. Computer speakers, TVs, DAB.

Times do change.....what was textbook 20 years ago might not be textbook now.

5.1 in clubs is silly though.

The default in SX (which is -3 although it used to be -6) because what is important is that you pick one, and get used to hearing it and then also compare it with reference material you like.           .::New Boole CD The Vital Few out now::.
